Having said that maybe if all the Facebook, Twitter, etc had their own section it would be easier for those who aren't into social media?

It's a good point which has been suggested many times.
I'm not a fan of Facebook or Twitter either, too many fake sites and retweeting robots.

I just want to say Thank You to everyone who has taken the time to reply because It's made me think about a lot of things.

I was just racking my brains trying to think of how I came here, it was because Martin was on a news programme talking about saving money by entering surveys.

So I searched here & found them. But I can't remember how I actually ended up in the comp section!

It seems for a lot of people it's not about just entering comps, it's about friendship & I guess a sense of belonging here? & the whole Ethos of MSE in general.

I didn't know that someone had tried to do a spin off comp forum, I can understand why it did not work though because we have most of the best comp finders here, & because of the loyalty of these people it's attracted more compers, & yes at the moment MSE is the comp forum with the most comps posted.

Have I outgrown the comping board, that's actually a really good question & one I've been thinking about. Perhaps I have? I'm not sure. It is very frustrating seeing the same issues come up & with no way of being able to help.

But it has brought up two main points that I am struggling with & there is no way of changing either of them.

They are both making my life miserable here because it's how can I word this? You know how you have beliefs about things how you believe things are wrong or right & yes grey in the middle too, but things you would never put up with anywhere else because you believe them to be very wrong, but you want to be here to join in & hopefully win too so you stay & it just eats at you.

Well that's where I am stuck at.

So I have to find a way around this or find another way to comp.

You do waffle, don't you ..
    thanks to all posters

LO, maybe it is time to stop thinking about life here so deeply, and regard it as just somewhere to find competitions. It's so easy to overthink this place, but when there's no chance of change, what's the point of wasting your energy?

I don't think you "waffled" - I think you were being open, and in need of support. But maybe that's also part of the problem: if we treat the forum as something we are emotionally connected to, we can get hurt. If it's just somewhere we comp, it becomes less emotional and more practical....
  • For me personally there are things I like and things I do not like.

I migrated full time to MSE when Loquax closed its main site a couple of years back. I had been entering comps from Loquax for a number of years and found it a good site as prizes were categorized making it easier for me to enter just the comps I wanted to enter without having to wade through lots where I was not interested in the prize. It evolved over the years and was always being tweaked to improve for the benefit of the users.

What I like about MSE is more comps are/were posted on here and answers were posted as well. Also lots of help always available here from comps that require some thought/input etc.

However, I think I can see where LO is coming from in that there are lots of lovely people on here with some brilliant ideas and suggestions but very rarely does anything seem to ever really change or move forward.

I too think twitter/Facebook/RC/Mags should all have their own sections which would make the main board much tidier.

This is not a dedicated comping site, anything that happens is always opposed to by someone, that's life we can't all agree.

There's been loads of changes, most for the better even if I opposed them, over the years.

You came here to comp anything else is a bonus, yes it's annoying but that's how it goes, Just suck it up and carry on comping.

I relate this board to the budget we all have an idea how the money should be spent but when it comes to the nitty gritty we are in over our heads.

Try and step back and see how the changes fit in, give them a chance, often they actually work.

So what if one persons asking got something 10 persons asking didn't, shrug it off and move on.

If I were a 15th century nun, I should like a monk with a nice clean and tidy wimple... :A

Unfortunately, sounded more like it's part of a nun's dress, though.

Definitely think the cheese comps should have a sub-forum of their own... There are enough of them :rotfl: Maybe even sub-sub-forums ("soft cheeses", "hard cheeses", "goats' cheeses" etc).

What about a python dressed as a nun?

I love this comping board! What's wrong with it?
    Am I too easily pleased?

If one looks at anything long enough fault can be found it seems.

I'm reasonably happy with where we are at currently & look forward to seeing how how the board evolves over the next few years,as it has over the last few.

In the not too distant past we did not have such as the green tick & red cross so good things do happen on here.

Perfection will never be reached as many will never be content with what is a great resource, mainly enabled by the actions of numerous unpaid, faceless members.

I had so so much I was going to write...but it basically boils down to

Should a competition forum not be ran by compers for compers?
There is so much compers would like to do but they are not allowed because of the MSE rules.

It would be so easy to do, there are basically half a dozen prolific competition posters on this forum, get those folks on side, open a new web page and go for it.

Of course it will never happen because no one will take the helm.

I have never understood what the competition sub section has to do with MSE.
