Do You Think The Comp Board Has Out Grown MSE?

Options
Firstly I will say this thread has not been made to upset or disrespect MSE or anyone who uses MSE.

It's something I have been thinking a lot about lately, probably stems from when I posted RC comps here & starting my own blog to post them there.

We all know how big MSE is & how much good MSE does every day with helping people in all sorts of different ways.

The comp board has been set up within the MSE forum style/system & tweaked to help make it easier for the compers as much as is possible within the MSE format

But

It only goes so far & with ever more competitions being found & listed daily quiet often there is not the right place to put things, & we do the best with what we have

Is it time for MSE comp board to find a format that would fit comping better?

  • Are you suggesting the comp board leaves MSE ?

I am surprised Martin Lewis associates himself with a board which encourages gambling.

I'm not sure it's outgrown MSE: I personally don't think it has. But I do believe that certain areas are becoming increasingly grey in terms of what can and cannot be posted, and how and where.

The one thing I think is bizarre is that we can't post purchase comps over £2.10.... Yet telephone entry comps require almost as high a spend, but you have nothing to eat / read to show for it.

It seems stupid that there are products out there with comps but because they're £2.11 and above, they can't be posted: even regular things the majority of us chuck in our shopping baskets regularly (e.g. loo roll, dishwasher tabs, etc). (Incidentally, if anyone does know where I can find a list of these types of comps, please let me know :o )

If I spend £3 entering an ITV comp via text a couple of times, I get nothing except a miniscule chance of winning something. If I spend £2.50 buying a tub of yoghurt, with a chance of one of 500 prizes worth more than £2.50, I have something to throw on my cornflakes, and a better chance of winning something.

I also don't see shopping as gambling, since I get something for my money.
  • Personally, I like the MSE comp section of the forum. On the whole I find it easy to navigate and meets my comping needs. It is like any computer programme....because I am used to it I can use it fast and often on autopilot. If I had to change to another site for comps then it would be a pain short term while learning my way around, but I am sure would be fine once mastered. No complaints re MSE comping from me!
I don't like some forum members and get on great with others, just like people in the real world. I try not to engage with members I disagree with. It wastes my comping time :) My opinion is if you don't like the way the MSE comping section of the forum works then please go elsewhere.

    No.
I found MSE looking for cheap gas and elec and I also loved comping but never realised there were so many great comps either. I have everything I want in MSE,...money advice, tech advice, freebies, discount codes, hol advice etc ...you name it, everything I need in advice is on here. It's not just about looking for ways to save money. I have also made lots of friends on here too and thanks to comping I have also made some money by selling stuff I no longer need which I won through comping. I've saved money by not having to save up for a TV amongst other things. I don't spend every min of the day on here and do have an 'outside' life like others do as well as a job. I don't see comping on Mse as gambling at all and I'm grateful to Martin and the team for bringing MSE to my attention and for allowing comping on here too. I'm sure others will agree.
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

Just to be clear I was referring to the Text Board not the free to enter competitions.
  • I really like this site and would hate to see it go/close. I find the people helpful and friendly. This site has made my post/emails and phone calls more fun with the added bonus of some lovely prizes. I have had the pleasure of posting some comps and had the occassional pm advising me an MSE'r has won from my post-as good as winning myself.

    Works for me.
I'm not a dedicated comper, I don't spend hours doing dailies, or click to wins. I enter as and when I feel like it and have the time, and the current format seems to fit my approach quite well in terms of narrowing down what I want to enter and the prizes I'm interested in.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Seems quite good as it is now but like most sites it is constantly evolving.

Until someone can point me in the direction of a better site I'll stick with MSE.As far as I can see there is not another comping site in the UK that can touch this one in many areas.
Such as do any have the amount of comps we do?

Or have you outgrown the comping board?
Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.
    (Wisdom, Courage, Self-control, Justice)

Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of what you can’t change
  • I like it the way it is. I like that no single personality is bigger than the board (and that anyone who tries anything cute in that department is sharp shot down in flames!) and I would be very wary of an offshoot forum run by a regular from here. Been there, done that with offshoot fora and as I believe I've said before - it NEVER ends well!
I do agree that some of the more obscure and inexplicable rules need looking at and sometimes it does have the feel of a 15th century nunnery with the unwillingness to even examine change never mind adopt it but for the most part it's pretty damned ok with me. :)
