Oh i see, yes
I managed to buy and insure a car in 2013 too! Although my insurance has halved since then (it was £1200, it is stupid how it works lol...) that sounds painfully expensive.
I have done quite a bit of overtime this month, including some overnight work that has a premium payment added on top. So should have a nice sum when I get paid next. May treat myself...There is a bag that I wanted...or may have an overnight stay somewhere
Thanks for your help. x
1200!! Wow! I managed to get mine and my partners for £300 (don't ask me how!)
I don't do too much random buys (coffee, lunch etc) but have been known to spend money on home things!
Good luck!0 -
It was 1,200 because I was 21 and only just passed my test. This year it came down to £6000

The pocket money account seems a good idea to me too. However, going back to your first post I agree with your boyfriend that it is odd you would say 'I can't afford it'. You can afford it, but you also want to afford to save. It might confuse him less if you can find a different way to say it.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Which may be harder to sort out if you are on a low income.
Agreed, not really relevant to the OP now we know more details.burnoutbabe wrote: »Keeping it simple and putting money in a cash isa at 2% doesn't seem a bad idea.
It would be a great idea - except MSE's own NISA page says the best instant access is 1.5% and even 90-day notice only gets you 1.7% both of which are less than the inflation rate. The Club Lloyds looks pretty good, also Nationwide and TSB have 5% accounts with lower limits but I don't know the detailed Ts & Cs. First Direct have a regular saver at 6% !
It's really hard just keeping ahead of inflation at the moment, I sympathise with anyone with a saving mentality, it's most discouraging.
*****UPDATE***
Tonight's BBC website states:
Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation fell to 1.5% in August, the Office for National Statistics said.
So we can just about hold our own against inflation again, that's good news of a sort. :-)The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Not too sure if its been mentioned but sign up to groupon or KGB so you can get discounted things (including hotel stays) so it still feels like you are saving as you have got it for less!0
