Sorry, couldn't quite work it out, forgot the name of the original hoteldanandjens_worldtravels wrote: »No, it still is 5, the Platinum is only half a page on the right, the four + is for a different hotel Club Riu Negril
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

We've been very fortunate with our holidays generally.
British Airways were outstanding in their customer service when we were delayed 24 hours once.
But....Took 12 months to get our money back from Alitallia once though...when they cancelled our Dubai flights.
Had to fight to get our money back when we cancelled a holiday to Thailand the night before for medical reasons. But got every penny.
Had a few battles, but luckily they always tend to get sick of me and pay up in the end!0 -
We did Dunns River Falls when on a cruise and while I thought the people were a little pushy, they were no worse than in Egypt.
We normally do Mexico in January,Vegas in the summer and we're doing Dubai later in the year too.
Our January holiday is normally just to relax, so staying on site for two weeks (if we have to) doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I think Montego Bay is fairly safe provided you take normal precautions. We've been very fortunate with our holidays generally.

I guess we've been more fortunate, we haven't had any disasters, ever. But then I wouldn't ever trust a tour operator with my money.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Just to point out the obvious:
'T' ratings are Thomsons own rating system and have little relevance to the actual rating given by an official tourist board. I know of tour operators who rate hotels as 3 or 4 whatevers (T's, diamonds, suns etc) when the official tourist board have only rated it as 2*!!
The Riu Palace Jamaica has been awarded 5* by the Jamaican Tourist Board, so is officially a 5* hotel. This has not and by the looks of it will not be changing.
It will not be appearing in the Thomson Platinum brochure from May 2015 it will be appearing in the Thomson Platinum Lifestyle which is a selection of 4T-5T properties with over 90% customer satisfaction ratings (http://www.thomson.co.uk/blog/2014/07/introducing-thomsons-platinum-lifestyle-collection/)
I would imagine that for Winter 2015/16 or possibly Summer 16 that the a la carte brochure will go altogether and be replaced by this lifestyle brochure, then what will you do OP?!Lea

Nothing, I'll have had the holiday!
Just to clarify, I don't really have any interest in the rating of the hotel or what brochure it's in.
I'm solely concerned with the fact that 'something' has changed with my holiday since I booked it.
As such, I feel I should have the right to cancel and re-book.
Unless anyone has encountered the same thing, then I'm not too bothered about people second guessing either myself or Thomsons.
Feel free to do so though!
Oh look, IOS 8 lets me put smiley faces on. 😀0 -

Concerned or not, there isn't a shred of evidence that anything has, aside from the brochure the property is in 5 months after you've travelled. But by all means, try to find out and then people can make an infomed decision as to whether you ought to able to cancel. As things stand, there is nothing to suggest that you should. The fact that the holiday is now offered at a cheaper price certainly isn't enough.0 -

Would you expect Thomson to contact me about my holiday in January to inform me of renovation work starting the following May?
Roadworks outside the hotel starting the following December?
If nothing's changed, why bother telling me if its not going to have the slightest effect on my holiday? 😳0 -
Something has changed, it will be in a different brochure from May 2015. Why that's concerning to you I have no idea, it will be long after your holiday has finished.0
