Wow, an ally.Well I can see why you would be aggrieved and agree with Voyager2002 in post 20.
Thomson describe Platinum as 'stylish 4T and 5T hotels'. A la Carte, they say, 'showcase our most luxurious hotels. Everything about these 4 and 5-star properties is first-class – the decor, the cuisine, the service'.
I would want Thomson to explain what now doesn't fulfill the first-class criteria for A la Carte. Is it the decor, the cuisine or the service that has fallen below the expected standards?
So I would keep on at Thomson, but also agree with those that say don't let it spoil your holiday and I'm sure it will still be wonderful.
Not really sure what happens now?......Thanks....lol
I can assure you that I have no intention of giving up. It's not my style.
If I do end up going to this hotel I will have a fabulous time. I always do on holiday.
Contrary to popular opinion on here, I'm actually a nice person......Honest!
I'm extremely confident that I will get a result that I am happy with. If I don't, I'll still post the result on here. I promise you that!0 -

So has it changed once or twice?

Wasn't it always going into the 'platinum lifestyle' like it was always going to change next May, but you didn't notice those bits through the descending red mist?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

It is a shame you didn't read the rest of the thread and see the explanation given by lea2012 and again by peachyprice above. The new category is not a lower standard, but rather reflects a more modern type of accommodation.0 -

And in any case, the OP's hotel is still in the original brochure and will be until long after the OP has travelled.0 -
"I doubt your contract makes any mention of a holiday to a specifically "A La Carte" hotel"
Seriously????????
You think I laid out five & a half grand to go to some random hotel?
I chose this hotel because it was the best on offer.....A La Carte!
I expect a bunch of lilly livered cheerleeders on tripadvisor, but not here.
''A la carte ' is pretty meaningless as a description of a hotel ..........as of course is ' platinum ' . These are all awards given by thompson they arent an industry standard. The holiday will be exactly what you booked . Its all smoke and mirrors, I would expect the price difference to be just one of those thngs , its not because the holiday / hotel has been downgraded .
By the way it would have only been the best the travel company had to offer , I very much doubt it will be the best hotelVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0
