I think the £600 price drop is more the issue here. The "label" on a hotel is just that. A label. £600 however is significant but sadly you were happy to pay the price originally and there is really not much you can do about that now.

If the hotel isn't changing brochure til Maynd OP is going earlier then the price drop has nothing to do with the brochure name surely?

The answer to the question "Can I cancel?" is yes, of course you can.

(But of course, that's not actually what you want to know........ ;) )

If I were to book the exact same holiday for the exact same dates today it would cost me £600 less than when I booked a few weeks ago.
Is it all about the money.....No, but it's a start!!!!!

What would you say if they put the price up by £600 and came to you and wanted you to pay the extra?

But keep on entertainin the troops. Threads like these always give relief
  • You can't compare brochure price with online price (the online price changes all the time as you know and you have previously benefited) so lets compare like with like:

A la carte (its difficult to read online as its blurry) but first week in Jan 7 nights 14?? (lets say 1500)
    Platinum same period 1329

But for a la carte you get included
-book seats first a cost of 30 in Platinum Lifestyle
    - taxi 41 per person

So difference in price is 171
add in your taxi and seats at 71 and the brochure price difference is 100 cheaper in Platinum.

IF you get anything from Thompson, the brochure price difference is about the most you can expect (and I suspect this will be less than the 100 as I rounded up and the taxi and seats prices are 'from' prices so at their cheapest)

YOU perceive a downgrade because its in a different (albeit cheaper) brochure but that's the point of marketing under 'if they fall for it let them pay it' banners - getting people to pay for nothing!

OP, would you not just accept a change to a hotel that is in the same brochure that you booked from?
I think you might just have something to run with if you ask Thomsons
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
