  • Last post from me on this thread as there is growing evidence the OP is taking the proverbial (aka being a troll)

First suggestion for OP to post on DFW:

Ignored by OP. Probably because they don't even exist.
  • I don't exist? Archi Bald, if indeed that is your real username, kindly leave my thread. Go and hassle someone else. Clearly that's how you have accumulated over 2000 posts. I answered you pretty clearly.

This is a bit of a story to bad mouth Lloyds.

I had a planned overdraft of £500 which I am well in to. Lloyds changed it so that there was a monthly fee and interest on this. Couldn't really complain. I set up a standing order to pay money in to the account regularly to cover it (plus a bit) but this didn't go through for whatever reason. Statements rarely arrive so I had no idea for a while. I then paid in 4 months-worth and set up a new standing order.

I then got a letter saying they are removing my planned overdraft because:

    a) I don't use it (I clearly do as I am well in to it)
    b) I haven't paid any money in (which I had)

The fees are now £10 EVERY DAY over £25. Up to a maximum of 8 in a month. I tried to get it overturned, showed that a) I use it and b) I had paid money in and had set up a new standing order, but no-one cared. I can't afford £80 a month outgoings on top of my current financial situation, and I can't afford to pay it off by next month.

I spoke to someone in the branch earlier who said 'well the fees will just build up then won't they?'

They have basically tied my up and rear-ended me, with absolutely no other option available to me but to let the account become unserviceable, it be referred to collections, and for another black mark on my credit history which is so close to being sorted out.

Utterly useless bank - avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!!
If you were within the planned overdraft limit of £500 then the only charges would have been £6 monthly fee and interest.
If you are been charged daily fees it would suggest you are in fact over the planned overdraft limit?
Other posters have added good advice so I won't fan the flames by adding anything else.
  • No they decided to remove the planned overdraft despite me using it and paying money in to the account, so because I was using it and am well over the £25 limit for an unplanned overdraft, the fees will now be daily @ £10 a day (max 8 per month)

I was managing my debts. Now, I cannot.

i was managing fine until another £70 is added to my outgoings.

Genuinely no wish to kick you when you're down but it's difficult to claim this when by your own admission you completely neglected one of your debts for a number of months when a standing order didn't work.

You say an extra £70 per month tips you over the edge but also that you're only four months away from being debt-free, which obviously implies that you have enough surplus to pay off debt rather than just service it - are you able to continue with one or more of your other debts for a bit longer while you pay Lloyds off perhaps?
  • i've never been the type to post mortem my bank account on a daily basis. i made arrangements on all my debts to pay the required amounts. i check statements when they come in which for some reason lloyds rarely do, but had no reason to suspect nothing was happening. even so, i have made several payments and only once payments were being made did they remove my planned overdraft.

i don't believe so on the current agreements, however it is something i'm going to have to look at doing. but £80 a month in just charges is ridiculous! it would take two years paying £100 a month to get inside the limit. if anyone thinks that is in any way reasonable they are deluded.
  • Speak to their customer support unit or arrange an appointment with a specialist in branch (note: that's an actual appointment with a specialist who deals with this sort of thing, not turning up at the branch and ranting at the person behind the counter)

I'm going to guess that something has gone awry with the standing order that should have gone to your Lloyds account as removing an overdraft is a pretty standard move if no credits have hit the account for 3 months.

exactly - there were two that hit by the time that the letter was sent, another a few days after. and i didn't rant at the fool i spoke to, he never offered an appointment. he just said tough when i got him down to the point that i can't afford the fees. i've tried to call CSU and can't get through, just get shipped to main CS, been promised a call back from them and nothing. been transferred to them via an internal credit check system for employees which i had no idea which option to choose, and no option to hold or not choose one. whole company is a joke

When did you switch your bank account from Lloyds after you ran up the overdraft?
  • You haven't mentioned it but given your posts so far per chance have you moved your main banking to another bank?
This if the case is a major red flag to a bank your overdraft is based on affordability and if they don't see you salary coming in every month they can and should remove your overdraft, a more sensible approach is to advise them your salary will be going back to paid into your lloyds account, there is nothing to say it has to stay there but the way their system will work says right now your income doesn't meet the criteria.
Have a think about that you might get somewhere again you might not
