anyone know how i can get a straightforward simple one click download for firefox so i can view youtube etc
Not possible, I'm afraid. Firefox will not run on the N700 without changing the operating system to the OS 2007 Hacker Edition. This requires a significant level of technical knowledge, and it is said not to be an especially stable platform (i.e., you can expect it to crash quite often).

By the way, the CAPS key on your keyboard seems to be broken.

iv been to the maemo site and its all talk for devlopers and people who know linux and source codes and what have you!

    cant understand any of it!

This isn't really what these devices are about. They're not for your average person - think of something that's even more complicated than the most complicated mobile phone.

If you don't already know about Linux, then these are going to be of limited use.

I keep playing with the ones we have at work, but I'm glad I didn't spend my own money on them now - I'd rather have something like the Eee PC, even if it will be a bit more expensive.

have a full look at everything on this site. The person's a veritable genius. So much useful stuff and simple step by step instructions for people like me! Useful if you want to view those YouTube clips... and use it for MSN Instant Messaging!

    ed77,
AFAIK, the 800 and 770 are the same size. Which is great because you really can just carry it in a pocket and use it to browse as and when.

    gkf,
I can't understand what problem you might be encountering unless it's something like BTOpenzone which allows you access to their site then tries to mug you for subscription. Mine seems to pick up at least 6 networks in most public places. I was sitting outside a Lloyds No.1 bar in Warwick last week happily surfing. Time to collect those weatherspoons vouchers as per this weeks Money Tips email...

BTW, for anyone who had problems pairing their 770 with their home wireless network because they'd forgotten their WEP or WPA code (like me d'Oh) this little prog can recover the code from your home PC. Many thanks to albertross for posting it originally.

...and then the window licker said to me...

It was a BTOpenzone I think, I must try wetherspoons and see if I can get on there. We can't get on with our home Orange broadband either even though we have the wep code. Really frustrating:confused:

Dealing with people who have Orange Broadband routers is why I drink after work. As far as we can tell, they're not wifi-compliant and do weird stuff. You'll probably have to push 'button 1' on the router after you've set up the connection on the 770 before you can use it.

Orange claim that they support WEP and WPA at the same time. Which isn't possible.

As long as it isn't something we are doing. This just gets so frustrating, we are hoping to use it in Orlando in a fortnight, as there are lots of free wifi spots there, will be really disappointed if we can't get it to work.

Well this morning I took the plunge and conversted my Nokia 770 to boot from MMC. It all works OK but there appears to be no noticable speed increase.

I am using the 1GB MMC supplied with the navicore bundle and was wondering if perhaps there were other MMC's that would provide me with a noticable speed increase.

I also would like to know if anyone knows if running on MMC reduces battery running times.

    Cheers

Try finding a local cafe or pub that has free wifi and try it there. If it works, then it's your evil Orange Broadband router.

If it is the router, it could be worse: at least you don't have a Nokia N95 on Orange too. I've never managed to get someone's Orange-branded N95 work on Orange broadband, ever. I've decided that the only thing Orange are good for is sending me free SIM cards to use as bookmarks.
  • cheers knuckledggr!

thanx for this, a bit of trial and error and it works! did freeze sometimes, and the screen did turn orange, but, after a reboot was ok! strange, but sometimes after installing stuff,it comes up with message "cannot install" but its on the device. certainly got my creative bit of my brain to think about returning home!!!!!!

I have absolutly no problem geting my orange N95 to work on my orange livebox. Infact, I have had 2 and niether of them was a problem. THe biggest problem with the livebox is forgetting to press the "1" button before trying to pair.
