Ok Seth .... here is how to do it.

    I found a link here

    http://www.figuiere.net/hub/blog/?Nokia-770

    This is what you do:

Go to Application Manager via Tools

At blue drop down arrow select Tools the Application Catalogue

    Now hit New

Where it says Web Address enter
    www.abisource.com/downloads/apt/

    Distribution should show - Minstral

    Components - user

Click Ok and on Close Update catalogue.

Simply go into Install New Applications
    Select All

Find Abiword and install ... and it works!

    HOWZAT!

    Ok Seth ....

Thanks that worked perfectly! Excellent I have all the apps I wanted!
The word processor looks quite feature rich and even seems to have a spell check.

I've not worked out how to run some of the command line commands as they required root access. Does anyone know how to get root, or if there are any N770 left at play or Expansys someone at work missed out!
    Seth.
  • First, look for oso-xterm for n770 on t'internet - install that.
then, look for BECOMEROOT on n770 pn t'internet - install that.
You will get XTERM in the EXTRAS menu on the N770. Then, start this, when you get the command line, type...
    sudo gainroot
et voila - you are root!!

Is there any where that is still selling these at around the £80 mark, or have I missed out.
The cheapest I can find now is Amazon which have them with a navigation kit for £149.99.

I also had ordered one of these from MobileFun.com a couple of weeks ago, but they just kept putting back their dates for it being in stock - even though their site claimed it was in stock when I ordered it. I phoned them up and they kept promising it would be in stock 'tomorrow' or 'soon'. I cancelled my order and got it from Play.com instead. I don't know if Play still have it, but if you do order it from them you may not get a plug adapter bundled in with it, in which case you need to ring them up and they will send one out.
Very pleased indeed with the 770 - it's a nifty little device. Can recommend you install Canola - a great media player, and also MaemoMapper - mapping software that you can get to map out a route for you and it will download all the maps for the route so you can use them offline.
Also can recommend getting a 2GB card for it - I got one from dvd.co.uk for £19.98 - no hassles at all.
