Just to let you guys know, i got mine from expansys last week and my wi-fi range is SHOCKING! I literally have to be in the same room as my router for it to work as soon as I start to walk away it disconnects.... i've requested an RMA from expansys and re-ordered from play as it seems to have dissapeared from expansys site now...

Hope the play one works ok!

As anyone else had a duff unit with poor WIFI?? Have many people sent their N770 back to Expansys with problems like Wifi (Missing internal aerial??!)

What is the ETA for Play's units are these US units? Do they come with an adapter?

Is it really easy to see if I get an N770 with poor wifi?
    Seth.
  • Well i ordered my play model on Friday night and it's just been dispatched via parcelforce now.... i'll let you know if the wifi is any better!
(still waiting for an RMA from expansys)

Very easy to see if wifi is poor - it doesn't see the network unless you are very close to the router, as soon as you walk away it drops to virtually no signal - better still if you have a wifi laptop - the signal strength should be VERY similar - my N770 is now a little BETTER than the laptop!

The EXPANSYS units are US spec. and therefore, wont (shouldn't) work above channel 11. Best chan. to work on are 1, 6 and 11 - MOST routers are on these already - check your neighbours chan. and put yours to a different one just to make sure (if you know how! Usually a setting on the router).

As I said - mine is BRILL since I soldered in a replacement areial - A little extreme for most people, but I knew expansys had none left and I was going to send it for repair to Nokia - However, I guess my warranty is void now?!?!? Anyway - I have gone from being annoyed with it to being VERY pleased with it! Loads of people working on apps for it - just look on google for N770 or internet tablet also Maemo.org is fab for loads of free stuff. It is a bit of a specialist device and some of the downloads aren't that easy to get going - stick with it tho!

How do people find the display size? 4.1 inches seems a little small for my eyesight. I use a Blackberry for email etc, and I am ok with the mobile phones. If the screen size is not an issue I fancy one of these.

    Many thanks! :o

works fine for groovey browser, nice zoom using the zoom keys also one touch full screen. The whole thing seems to work well. i got a laser bluetooth keyboard from my local Orange shop thiis works well. I used the bluetooth plugin to get this working.
I think I might buy a stoway keyboard can any one recommend one?

Also any advice about using a keyboard for text entry on the n770 welcome.

I like the form factor and the Nokia quality hardware and software works very well.

When using BT make sure that you give unit time to boot.and connect to wifi before powering up the BT keyboard.

Written on a laser keyboard 30 quid from Orange store down from 130 see post on grabbit main board

Expansys are selling these off at a crazy £74
    http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=142406
These now seem to have disappeared completely from the eXpansys web site, so I guess they may be sold out. Don't know if play.com still have any available.

I received mine on Friday and I am well impressed with it. Allows me to check whether my train is going to be on time before I get out of bed in the morning!

I have to say the more I play with my N770 the better it get's.

I have now found that you can download free 'Media Streamer' software which allows me to play any off my music, movies, pic's, podcasts etc that I have on my PC.

I can now play all my music etc in any room in my house or in the garden and if you connect it into speakers or an amp you can then get better quality sound. All done using my Wifi in my house.

Use Orb.com and you won't need to install anything. You will also have access to all your files (not only media ones). Orb will also convert your videos on the fly to "real format" playable with the 770's media player.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
