Apparently they are sending the US version.

Do you think it would be possible for me to send it back and get a full refund (inc. postage) seeing that when I purchased the product I assumed it would be a UK product and not an imported one?

Do you think I have a case?

Ooh. That definitely puts me off - a US model device won't get any warranty support from Nokia in Europe. All you could go on would be your statutory rights with Expansys.

Glad I didn't buy one now.

The channel allocation for Wifi in the US is not the same as the UK.
Not sure if the firmware upgrade or setting will fix this or if there is an EU / UK firmware set?

Chap on slash dot reported something similar not on a 770 but might be worth are read

"United States uses channels 1-11, Europe uses 1-13, and Japan uses 14. Changing it won't get you anything, as most people use 1, 6, and 11, and 13 isn't far enough from 11 to save you from other user interference"
You're overlapping, then. Channels are 22MHz wide -- 11MHz on either side of the channel's frequency. Channel 1 is centered on 2.412GHz, channel 6 on 2.437 GHz, and channel 11 at 2.462GHz. Notice that the high end of channel 6 is 2.448GHz, and the low end of channel 11 is 2.451GHz -- a mere 3MHz apart, and subject to some overlap because the 22MHz spread isn't perfect, and bleedover is common.

Now, in your case (channel 9), you're operating 11MHz left and right of 2.452GHz. Your bottom range (2.441GHz) is just above the middle of channel 6 and your top range (2.463GHz) is actually above the center of channel 11. In addition, channel 9 is also right about the frequency used by microwave ovens, according to Joshua Wright (whose name you'll see on plenty of wireless security tools), and many inexpensive microwave ovens leak enough radiation to poison connections.

This is all on top of the change coming with 802.11n, which uses 40MHz ranges, many of which may default to channel 6 out of habit, though 3 and 9 will be better selections based on legal bandwidth, and their use of channel 9 will probably swamp your little 11g unit.

Basically, you're using possibly the worst frequency set you can possibly select."
    Seth.
  • Re support for the device, have a look at:

For those wishing to use it as a satnav:

search navicore personal on ebay. They go for about £40 including the gps receiver.

...and then the window licker said to me...

A little onscreen keyboard opens up so you can enter text.

Managed to pair with a nokia phone and have an internet connection through this to the n770 and am surfing happily through this. It's not too bad. Suppose if you spent time and got it configd. ok it would be quite a nice gadget to surf with rather than a moby or smartphone due to its good viewing size (800x480) you can see mostly all of the webpage which is nice.

However, the wifi range is a real pain for me (may not be for everyone!) - and it still doesn't match a little laptop for surfing in front of the TV due to the lack of keyboard. Think mine will make an appearance on EBAY in the near future, unless I can find some wonder apps. for it on all the tablet browser websites.

Can`t fault this lil tablet to be honest...Wifi is excellent and it was so easy to setup...I can actually pick up some of my neighbours wifi with this which my laptop can`t...The virtual keyboard does everything it should and i can`t really understand why anyone would want a seperate keyboard!! Sort of defeats the purpose i reckon but if you really need it why don`t you get one which you can connect to the bluetooth? As someone here already said don`t expect this to do what a pc can do because you will be disappointed!! I for one love mine and wish i had bought a second one for my son.

Very happy with this little device.
As has already been mentioned, you have to be into gadgets to appreciate it, but it's well made and well thought out.

Not sure how oftem I will pick this up instead of using a laptop, but when I'm travelling it will deffinately be coming with me!

This must be the gadget of my dreams. Awesome beyond any of my expectations. Now I am accessing the internet on the go with a proper browser (could even do my internet banking with MiniMo), Have full access to every single file on my home computer (using Orb) and streaming all sorts of media from my desktop's 500GB drive as well as viewing my documents and PDFs. Also streaming viedo and radio from the web (mostly BBC) Let alone playing games and making voip calls (with google talk). Small enough to slip into a coat's pocket and tons of people working on hacks and apps.
I am now certain that this must be the most underestimated piece of technology in the history of gadget. Supports 2GB MMC out of the box and increased virtual memory (using 64mb from the memory card) to expedite things a bit. Now off to look into adding GPS functionality.:T
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
