  • Day 9 finished with no gambling.

Player tennis today with a family member so spent about £7-£8 but it was worth it.

Few more chapters read and my book is getting really interesting which is great.

Tomorrow is going to be a garden day as I have a day off work. It's a day I was owed back from working a Saturday weeks ago so delighted. It better now rain though.

Off to bed and having a lie in as I'm knackered.

Well done you. I have a viewing at the 'up for sale' house on Friday so will spend tomorrow and early Friday cleaning, clearing and weeding - glad I sprayed the slabs on Saturday as it can't be done when it's raining. I failed to get the doors back on the attic cupboard so have set to dismantling it. Have been this evening, undone a few more screws (previous owner loved power driving them in at awkward angles) and brought various pieces of melamine downstairs. I am going to hide them all in the shed for now but it was dark by the time I finished so they are lined up by the patio doors.

Brought back a large shrub in a 30l tub (thank heavens for my faithful dolly truck - second shrub this week and before that I brought old kitchen cupboards which have gone under the stairs here for tool storage). Moved last year the week before my hip replacement operation. Wasn't supposed to be walking, let alone carrying. None of us had the energy to go back for all the garden and shed stuff and I am only now getting strong enough to move them. Now that I have stopped, really noticing all the different places I ache.

  • Hi Mothernerd and I really hope the viewing goes well. It really is a stressful time when buying/selling a house, i'm just glad I don't have to do it for a while yet.

Day 10 has been good. Got my deserved lie in and I was out in the garden most of the day. I even planted a few flowers :rotfl:

Garden is taking shape a little more now. The only problem is the cost of everything. I was looking to paint the fences etc and I got a massive tub of paint for £9. I was delighted. So basically my days off for the next 2-4 weeks are going to be painting. Need a few pots for the plants but wow some are very pricey.

Still looking for that perfect puppy too. Not seen anything yet but i'm sure it will pop up. I think OH is more excited than me :D

Going to speak with a plumber to see if we can have a tap fitted to the front of the house as there isn't one there at the moment. This is on the list of about 20 things we would like done/looked at.

I have OH's family round tonight for dinner so no doubt that will take up a few hours. My new trait is having a beer whilst reading my book for 30-45 minutes before bed - soooo enjoyable!!

Glad it stayed fine for your gardening. It was threatening to rain here but was okay. Finished dismantling the attic cupboard (apart from one board which can stay). Brought everything down from the attic and the things from yesterday are all stashed in the shed (had already locked the back doors when I brought the last few things down).

Have cleared all the small weeds sprouting in the gravel (bit thin as I moved some to replace some manky concrete) and chopped down a sackful (have some blue rubble sacks which I drag round with me - thus measuring it all in sackfuls) of shrubs + larger weeds.

Had to come back as I was ravenous (taking a sandwich tomorrow) but brought another shrub in a tub back (I bought 'posh looking' tubs for shrubs there - to put in odd corners and plain black bucket types for things I was growing on to move with me). Had to have a sit down at the bus stop on the way back but happy with progress. Only a few weeks ago I could only do 15 minutes at a time and had to sit on the stairs for a rest between tasks.

  • You're doing really well, mothernerd:T:beer:.

What are you reading at the moment, MrCF?. There's nothing to beat getting lost in a good book is there:j? I only seem to switch the TV on for the news these days, would much rather spend an evening reading.
  • The good thing about having a nice garden is that it makes the house look so much prettier. I love doing stuff in the garden - I was outside most of today actually and that's me going outside for another hour or so again.

The garden is keeping me busy and keeping my mind of things which is great.

Had a bit of a clear out aswel with the garden stuff so everything is much tidier now which i'm happy with.

Hopefully OH cooks something nice for dinner, i'm starving :rotfl:

No spends today which is great. I logged into the invisible account and I noticed that my car tax DD and loan 2 both came off on the 1st so i'm happy that's worked out ok. Trying to note spend anything significant.

I'm reading Laidlaw by William McIlvanney - I think it's the first of 3 so I have plenty more reading to do.

Anyone doing anything exciting this weekend?

I was wondering what you were reading as well. I had the library home delivery service for the first few months after my operation. It seemed a bit mad as I can actually see the library from my house (two sides of the same car park) but I wasn't able to carry much (and felt unbalanced when I was using two crutches) and also I wasn't allowed to bend below the waist (had to re-arrange cupboards etc) so would have been restricted to whatever was on the top two shelves. I had to tell them what I usually read, so now have a list of 'new to me' authors.

My sleeping pattern is messed up at the moment. I read when I can't sleep (well would read every waking hour if allowed). However I have found myself fighting to stay awake to read another few pages (sometimes failing and only admitting defeat when I wake up again and again and again).

Have done another few hours sweeping, mopping and weeding/ pruning. Dozed off shortly after getting home. Made myself have a bath to ease the aching muscles (was regretting not taking ibruprofen before I got to the other house). Very tired now but had been lying in the dark since just before ten and not going back to sleep, so on here for a little while. If I can't move tomorrow, I will be quite happy with a morning in bed, reading but might need to dash to the library in the afternoon for more books.

  • Hi,

Just a quick catch up - apologies for the absence - I'm supposed to be "taking control" not losing control - which is what I have been doing (don't ask).

A lot has gone on since i last posted and I'm pleased for you that you are still fighting on and keeping busy. You sound like you have a wonderful partner, great job and good life....

    Just wanted to say hi

Another avid reader here too, mothernerd:j

Recently rediscovered the joys of the mobile library van:j. Very rural here and it's a 13 mile round trip to the nearest bricks-and-mortar library. I've been so impressed with the mobile service, I can order books online from the County Council Libraries catalogue and they are available to pick up from the van within days, well before it's next weekly visit to the nearest village that has a weekly service. Plus, their general stock is constantly changed and I can always find great new authors to read. It only comes to my own village once a month and I'm always busy on that day so never get to use it! It comes Saturday mornings when I'm often out car booting:(. Managed to catch it today though and dropped off about 15 finished books:eek:. It doesn't matter where in the county the books are borrowed from, they can be returned anywhere:T
  • I love to read too. Libraries are on the decline which is a shame. I love the smell of a new book especially.. I just couldn't have a kindle. i must be a traditionalist at heart.
