  • Thanks Mothernerd, Westie and takingcontrolatlast. I do think myself things have improved however I want it done quicker, which is impossible. It is nice seeing the figures going down, just wish it could be at zero.

Day 19 and 20 finished with nothing major to report. Feeling pretty flat and lethargic at the moment but maybe that's just because its Monday.

I called up to see about a settlement figure for the Car Loan. It's £3064, which is a big bit bigger than what I thought it would be. I do still have 21 payments left on the car so (21 x £154 = £3542). Really i'm saving £500 there but I haven't got the money to pay it off. I am looking at getting a cheaper motor so that would reduce the loan/debt but not get rid of it.

    Here are today's loan figures.

    Loan 1 - £8680.72
    Loan 2 - £570.72
    Loan 3 - £1000.00

I couldn't leave loan 2 like it was so I overpaid it with £70.72 so its total now is a round £500. I also withdrew £50 and put £30 of it into my Xmas pot and £20 into my dog fund.

My Xmas pot now stands at £450 and my dog fund is at £326.

Roughly about £110 left in the current account so wont be doing anything else before payday. Still only the 1 transactions on the credit card but that will be paid off in full automatically by SO on 29th.

Debating whether to deposit my Xmas pot into the bank and pay off Loan 2. I have so much to pay off I don't know what to do :rotfl:

I suppose I need to keep money in-case I cant get finance if I change my car, although whatever I do get it will be significantly less that my current finance. We will so what happens in the coming weeks. Less debt is less debt, even if it does mean swapping things about a bit.

Off to have a look over some things for work, how boring. :o

  • Hi MrCF, i know what you mean about wanting debts to go quick - it's one of my frustrations in trying to pay off debts but i'm in for the long haul

Have you considered using your xmas pot to pay off loan 2 (after finding the extra £50) and then starting the xmas pot again from scratch? Would it save you any interest if you done this?... i'm sure you have already thought this and decided against it...:o

Keep up the good work :T
  • Nothing's ever simple is it when we've got debts to juggle? Seems even more complicated when we do have sums of money that could have alternative uses:(

How long did it take you to save what's now in your Christmas pot? As you are probably earning a bit more than when you first started it would it be possible to use it to pay of the smallest loan and still save a decent amount for Christmas? We're not much over halfway through the year so there's a fair bit of time if you make a real effort. There's nothing as satisfying as seeing a debt gone for good:j

I can understand your predicament about the car and the credit possibilities. I know you're not in the same boat as me (I'm on a DMP with NO credit cards now and a credit history that would make anyone but a total idiot refuse me any credit whatsoever:o). I have to rely on money I actually have whenever I need to buy anything and this has been the major 'plus' of the whole sorry DMP saga actually. I have to think completely differently about any spending I do and have come to realise the hard way that a savings cushion is the only way. What I mean is don't be in so much of a hurry to pay off your debts that all your savings are used up. You never know what you might need money for in a hurry and credit can't always be guaranteed;).

Still, having a bit of 'surplus' money is a nice problem to have and I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do:beer:
  • Hello everyone

Day 21 and 22 completed all good with nothing major to report. Been busy at work so cant complain as this is keeping me going. Still hitting the fitness so things are looking pretty decent.

Should be no major spends before payday on Monday/Tuesday. I got my payslip in today and it was.....I don't know how to describe that feeling in which I thought I would get more. I got 5 days of my bonus so my pay was a little more but it still only came out at £1870 ish. For some reason when I did my calculations last month on my outgoings, I'm sure I set myself £1950 every month. This was even before I knew about my bonus.

Seems I might need to recalculate.

Takingcontrolatlast - I have thought about this and I've been thinking about it more the last few days. Obviously I have the dog fund spare too, however I don't really want to be touching this. The reason I am trying to keep my Xmas pot is obviously I have my holiday next month and then I have the vehicle predicament. It would just be a worry that I used it and then needed it to actually buy another car after getting rid of the finance.

Carbootcrazy - You are so right. I should have your mindset but unfortunetely I'm probably not as sensible. Although I've been sensible for over 3 weeks in a row ;)

I would ideally like to sell my car and pay off the finance. Whatever cash is left over from the sale I would like to put this towards a new car (old banger) along with either my saved cash or even put £500 on credit card. Whatever scenario I choose, it will be better than having a £3500 loan to keep paying for 21 months.

Ideally before the end of the year, it would be fantastic to have loan 2 paid off, the car finance paid off and me having another car without any further debt. At the most I might need to borrow a £1k but I'm sure I could figure something out so I don't take out any further loans.

Keep on forgetting I have Loan 3 - £1000 to repay over the next year. Maybe this is something I could target next year.

See, there is so many options. At least in the meantime if I can continue withdrawing money and putting it into my pots it will mount up and at some point I will most likely make the decision to use it somehow (over-payments).

There might also be the possibility of a few more hours overtime at work next week so it will be longer day shifts as I will need to go in earlier. Oh the joys of overtime... :rotfl:

Oh how a nice little lottery win wouldn't go a miss. What would be the fun in not clearing the debt myself though? Got to love a challenge.

Almost forgot, A big thank you to those who keep coming back with support to keep me going. Have a cuppa on me..

  • I'm sure you will make the right decision that's best for you and at least you have options :)

I think the word you were looking for when you opened your payslip and it wasnt what you were expecting is.... disappointed :rotfl:

Keep up the hard work and chores! (impressed)

Hope you and yours enjoy your weekend
  • Well, as often happens on a Saturday morning, I was up at the crack of dawn ready to go selling at a table-top sale. I woke up hoping yesterday's rain had completely cleared but not only does it look as if it bucketed down during the night but it's absolutely pouring now too. Really beating on the kitchen window:(. The sale is an indoor one but sellers have to park round the back of the hall on a field and carry their stuff right round and into the hall. And I've got a car full of boxes and bags to carry round so loads of trips to and from the car.Only about 2 spaces on the road outside and they are always taken:mad:. Not a problem on a fine day but I know from experience that field is waterlogged after heavy rain:eek:. So, alas, my chance to sell some more tat and earn a bit of extra cash are scuppered once again. There's always tomorrow though, several outdoor car boot sales available:j

I could take a leaf out of your book, MrCF, and crack on with some housework instead. No, on second thoughts, whilst the house is quiet and OH is still asleep, I'll get a couple of uninterrupted hours in reading my book:j

    Enjoy your weekend everyone:beer:
  • Morning fellow MSE savers.

Its the weekend, thank lord :D

The sun is shining, the grand prix is on tv and i'm going to have a relaxing day.

I'm going to be doing an extra day next week and work the saturday to catch up on things in the office. I won't get overtime but I will get the time back. Here's hoping for a few more hours overtime throughout the week though :rotfl:

I'm loving all the overtime as I know it will be so beneficial to me in the August pay packet. Whether its for the new car, dog fund or to pay off loan 2, either way its going to something good.

Took out £30 yesterday for lunch (well £10 and £20 to hide away in my pots), however didn't end up buying lunch so that's £15 into the dog fund and £15 into the Xmas pot. They are building up nicely now.

Signature fully updated now. 25 days and counting of no gambling and super saving. Feel good. Again massive thank you to you all for coming back and supporting. It does help.

Mothernerd - Oh yess. God forbid I don't help, that would put OH into a right gurn.....And rightly so I suppose. Yes disappointed sounds what I was looking for. I couldn't think there for a minute.

carbootcrazy - Shame about the car boot. I haven't done one for years. I remember doing one as a child and its amazing what other people sell and buy. I wish I had loads to sell I suppose I haven't been buying much which is only a good thing.

Do you do ebay?. That could be a money maker for you. I use it all the time to buy stuff but I hate packaging and sending the items.

Reading, what is that. I suppose it's not too big a deal at the moment as i'm keeping real busy but I maybe need to bite the bullet and get involved again.

    Enjoy and relax.

  • Just checked the bank to see how much was left until payday......I've been paid early :j:j:j:j

Not sure why, I think RBS always pay wages on the Friday before payday on the Monday.

Anyway, I had roughly £1960 but I've transferred over my £750 to the joint account to get that out of the way.

I've obviously got a few expenses this month so I've also taken out £200 cash from the local ATM to cover this. This will primary be my spending money for our holiday. OH and me have our joint pot for all joint spends away on holiday so that covers food and travel etc. Obviously I will add to my spending money from the money left over in my account at the end of August, that's when i'm away.

This takes the account down to about £1,000. This will be left to cover all my DD's and SO's with enough money should I need it for anything else.

So my pots are as follows:

    £200 - Holiday spending money
    £341 - Dog fund
    £465 - Xmas Pot
£350 - Joint spending pot with OH

The good thing about taking out the cash and allocating my money now it means I cant slip up like I have done on previous paydays.

Having my pots all filed up like this means I can use most of Augusts wage for a whopper of an over-payment to Loan 2...:D I may even be able to clear it next month.

Off to clean some windows :(
