East Midlands Airport Missed flight - where do I stand?

no sane person would arrive at a busy modern international airport with only one hour and fifty minutes before the flight they have paid for is due to depart.
Try London City airportI usually get there 1 hour before my flight leaves and that's plenty of time. Been flying from there for years and it has never taken more than 10 minutes to go through security.
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
haven;t flown for years but got through bag drop and security at leeds bradford in less than 20 minutes last week. then making the most of premier lounge for 2 hrs - assumed that the "get there 2-3 hrs before the flight was just so you could spend as much money as possible as the departures board advised is to "relax and shop". reading this thread it seems I was just lucky0

Pride lewroll - pure pride! I may end up in a wheelchair sometime in the future but for now I like my independance. I can still walk but just a bit slower then I used to.
Might email LBH and see what they suggest. If I inform them early enough there should be no problems.
If they reply at all, they will tell you to book special assistance.
My father is in exactly the same situation as you and is VERY independent, but he does allow himself to be pushed around airports in a wheelchair.0 -
Did the aircraft depart empty ? If not what special measures did the successful travellers employ.0

I think it might be interesting to see what the CAA have to say about this scenario, of being there in good time and the airport fails to administer security checks in a prompt fashion as per their published pre-travel advise.0

Thanks for the responses on this.
I will update you with the responses from both Ryanair and EMA.0 -
I flew out on 5th Sept and back yesterday.
Express lane for security. There are 2 machines outside the branch of W H Smith in the main check in area ( not the Ryanair check in area ) where you can buy tickets.
It looks as though there are new X Ray machines in security and the staff were very slow using them ( they send baggage down one of two shutes after X Ray, right hand shute is cleared left hand shute needs examination.
I think they have removed the machine where you have to buy clear bags, at least I didn't see it.
So words of wisdom, before you travel look on the website and see how many flights are departing close to the departure time of your flight, if there are a number then give yourself plenty of time to get through security.
Arrivals, last night four planes landed in four minutes. This meant a queue outside for thirty minutes before you could even get into passport control.
Luckily it was a fine night but had it been pouring with rain and blowing a gale then putting it mildly I think there could have been trouble.
So five E machines and two staff doing manual checks in a small area is just not enough. Seeing as the airport is spending millions creating new shops and restaurants it is time they increased the size of passport control. In my mind it can only get worse. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -

Is East Midlands Airport seeking an award as the most incompetent airport in the UK?0 -

Probably, it has gone downhill dramatically since Manchester Airport bought it.
It appears all they are interested in is cramming as many flights, shops, bars and restaurants in without being prepared to spend on infrastructure. Oh and don't get me started on car parks, bus stops and where taxis should park.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0
