Have heard of pouring boiling water over the cooked mince to get rid of fat too.. Never tried it myself tho..

Use red lentils often.. Great added to soup, I usually rinse them in a sieve and bung in whatever I'm using them in ;)

Tried sweet potato chips in the actifry tonight, never had them chipped before.. Very nice, have orders to make them again!

It isn't easy to find low fat mince here (in Spain), and DH and I were looking at minced beef that was 12% and discussing how much difference it would make. Fortunately we decided against it. We also thought about getting quorn mince, which I think is fat free (?) and combining it in equal amounts, which would make it 6%.

I don't know if it's utterly fat free but quorn mince is definitely free on plan so that would work really well. You could bulk it out with some lentils too ;)

Lentils and beans are great added to casseroles in the slow cooker. Pearl barley is lovely done that way too and as an added bonus you can tell when everything is cooked by when it is done.

Well done on your loss musogirl :T

Just finished off the biryani style thing for tea. It was really lovely and I'll definitely do it again but with my own spices cos I liked it quite mild.

I've highlighted the syn value above. As you can see this works out quite high syn (47 + 4 + 12 = 63) so each portion would be about 15, this would be a day's worth of syns.

Can easily be made as a completely Free meal by using less than 5% pork mince (I've only found this recently in Tesc*); use fresh garlic and omit the Olive Oil and use Frylight; everything else is Free.

As you can see you can easily make this syn free on the plan.

    HTH.

Most of the time I use the jars of Lazy Garlic (minced) or the jars of peeled garlic cloves in brine from Aldi (occasional) or the Asian shops. Both are free. I use fresh for roasting with Mediterranean veg or similar dishes.

Beware of anything in oil jpscloud, but it's understandable that you have to use things up. Like I said before, just keep posting menus or ask as many questions as you like.:)

  • Shah - There's a week on the spreadsheet I forgot to put my weight loss in, somewhere in the middle. Can you put it down as -1lb if its not too late?

I struggle to get really low fat mince, I use the 12% fat stuff and drain off the fat, obviously only useful if done in a Wok or something. Our consultant says its not technically correct, but who's to know.

Don't use it that often to be honest.

Meg - love the everlasting chocolate - if only (for those that can't resist chocolate)! For me it would need to be everlasting wine, LOL!

    Another EE day today:

B - porridge made with water, mullerlight, grapes, satsuma
L - ham salad, HM remoulade, dressed with balsamic
D - LO SC beef, boiled potatoes, beans, more remoulade

HEA - milk in tea as usual
    HEB - porridge

Syns - remoulade 1.5 (guesstimate as will only have a couple of tablespoons from a big bowl, total syns 6.5)

May also have a fruit split lolly this evening - 3 syns.

Really need to keep syns low from now until WI on Thursday morning!

    Morning

Thanks for all the suggestions re mince and lentils, I'm definitely going to get some lentils and try them.

Well done musogirl, you're doing really well. :T

Meg - thanks for the everlasting chocolate, that made me laugh, I wonder how that works?

Thankfully I can live without chocolate and sweets, although that wasn't the case about 15 years ago when I used to eat loads. It was doing SW that changed it for me, it became a choice of using syns for wine or chocolate and sweets and the wine won! :D

There's quite a few on the thread that don't like Christmas, maybe we should form a Bah Humbug club!

Seriously though, sometimes I think the season takes over our lives and everyone expects you to get into the festive spirit and eat drink and be merry, but there's a lot of stress involved when you've got to do everything and keep everyone happy.

All we can do is try not to let the stress levels build to the point where we start bingeing on festive naughties and undo all our efforts.

    Stay strong!

    Catch you later.

    I' m down a pound but I think I'm lucky.:T
This cold and sore throat hasn't done me any favours. I haven't eaten everything that I wrote on my menu plan. Most of the time I couldn't swallow, I still can't properly, and I have eaten two things that I shouldn't.
Nothing tastes right, I shall be glad when I'm better. I still can't change the font size and colour. Hope someone will help me Thanks:D:D

Hugs to all the losers and a bigger hug to the STS and gainers. Keep at it and don't give in. It's CHRISTMAS !!!:j :j
