Thank you! I wasn't sure about posting because strictly speaking, I don't follow the plan as it is? Saying that I do attend classes every week, and hopefully the news that's coming in the New Year will mean I was just ahead of my time lol!
If you are all happy with me to be pRt of this group, I'd love to join in

I'm happy for you to post just so we can keep seeing that cute face on your avatar ;) he's gorgeous!!!

Welcome to the board, I'm interested in your red days as I'd love to be able to follow them, unfortunately I love my carbs too much which isn't the healthiest, So I struggle..

Brilliant weigh loss :T:T you may have some more to go but your achievement so far should be applauded!!:T:T

We get weighed on the 2nd too but I won't be able to make it as it's my busy day at work, so won't be able to see what new stuff is.

We are getting some sort of book before Xmas though, not sure what is it and our consultant told us Quark features quite heavily on the new plan...

Maybe we can all get our consultants to tell us one piece of info then piece it all together :rotfl::rotfl:
    Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.

    Oh my maman

Hoping for a better nights sleep tonight. Last night I was still wide awake at 3 am and eventually dozed off and then was awake again around 6am. Haven't been too bad most of the day but it has really hit me now.

    b_e_g

Didn't get to bed until after midnight, but couldn't sleep from a mixture of excitement and too much caffeine! Think must have finally dosed off around 3ish, so early bed for me tonight I think.

I think that would be a good idea. For too long we've all been brainwashed into thinking fat is the enemy and bad for us, when in fact it is an essential nutrient. I treat avocado, olives and olive oil like free food (in moderation of course) and I'm losing weight. They contain good fats so they shouldn't be synned! They're just as good for you as oily fish, which is free.

    Rant over... :rotfl:

I am just delurking for a minute to say how much I agree with you re fats. I'm not talking vegetable fats like margarine or cooking oils as I think they are not good for you. I follow the red plan but I don't count healthy fats either! I eat Advocado, butter, coconut oil and olive oil. I'm not saying I eat loads of it but when I use it I don't count it! I also eat very little fruit except for berries. I've been doing SW for almost 10 years😱. Up till last Christmas I had lost 5 stone. Since then I started adding more fat, reduced the fruit and cut out the starchy vegs, I've lost 5 1/2 stone this year. That makes a total of 10 1/2 stone. The sad thing is I still have another 7 stone to lose😕.

My favorite veg is caulifloer, brocolli, spinach, green beans etc. basically the SS ones!

Welcome retiredlady. I'm in complete agreement, last year I was following a low carb diet and my Lyme Disease consultant also advised me to eat foods that are as natural as possible including butter & natural oils. I was sent an article once re margerine, when it was first 'invented' it was tested on turkeys/chickens and even though they started dying off they still decided to feed it to humans. My friend keeps chickens and says when they have a choice between food with margerine or food with butter they choose butter everytime. I will try and dig out the email and post it.

Had an absolutely wonderful time at the dinner dance (my very first), last night, really didnt want it to end. Enjoyed the meal, only had a red wine spritzer and a lemonade so not too many drink syns. I was so full I only had two small chocolates afterwards so quite good really. My real enjoyment came from the company, dressing up and dancing, rather than the food. I am going to reactivate my facebook account and will post photos on there later today. My dress actually felt a little loose :) Never thought when I started ballroom dancing back in January it would lead to so much enjoyment.

We (dancing friends) have planned a girlie day tomorrow. We are going for coffee in the morning, visiting a dress shop(dance/evening dresses) and then having a late lunch, so probably another day off plan, but so looking forward to it.

Thanks again! Yes I have posted on both the SW and Weight loss forums on here over the past few years. I used to just do the straight SW diet but found my loss was slow, especially on EE. :(
Now I just do red days or original plan. I don't have any HEB at all! I eat leafy green vegetables or any that grow above the ground except for peas. I eat berries 2 or 3 times a week with fresh cream. I have my coffee with cream also, I add a bit of butter to my vegetables. I don't have any milk but eat full fat cheese as desired. Luckily I don't have a "thing" for cheese, if it's required for a menu I use it but am not a cheese addict!
I fry my foods in a bit of coconut oil, the refined one doesn't taste go coconut and is lovely to cook with. I don't trim my bacon either!:o

I really do feel wonderful now. I used to just sit in my chair but now I go for walkies several times a day! I just generally have more energy!:j
Oh yes, forgot to say, I thought I would really miss bread a lot as I used to eat it a lot:eek: but I honestly don't miss it at all now, took about a week before I realised I hadn't thought about eating anything naughty all day:j
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!

Here is the email re butter v margerine

    Pass the Butter Please

Having Worked at Unilevers Premier Margarine Factory in the UK for 1 Year,
as a Management Trainee, and then in Sri Lanka Managing Margarine
Manufacture, I can safely admit that what you are about to read is true !!
    Pass The Butter ... Please.

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the
turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a
payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this
product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow
colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like
it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings....

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?
    Read on!
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams
    for margarine.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the
same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other
    foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only
    because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of
    other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for
    less than 100 years .

    And now, for Margarine..
Very High in Trans fatty acids.
Triples risk of coronary heart disease ...
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers
    HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..

    Lowers quality of breast milk

    Decreases immune response.

    Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact...!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27
    ingredients with PAINT.
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and
anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing
the molecular structure of the substance).
Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area.
Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:

    * no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (which says
    something)

    * it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value;

nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a
    find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and
    spread that on your toast?

    Chinese Proverb:
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you
have a moral obligation to share it with others.

You're very welcome retiredlady . A great deal of tweaking goes on here so it's hardly an official SW thread anyway. Probably the biggest departure for me is using a 'syn bank' rather than the 15 a day as recommended. And only the other day I was commenting on my personal theory that veg is better than fruit and that the sort of veg you describe is better than the 'carby' types. Another hobby horse of mine is that it's not OK to eat as much free food as you like. I really can't see that having a third of SFs at meal times and then eating loads of free food in between makes sense. I balance my SFs across the day so that I always have at least a third of what I eat as SFs.

That sounds nice as well, thanks. How many syns in those?

The Moser Roth chocolate from Aldi is 7 syns for a 25g bar. My DH is convinced that eating the 70% dark chocolate is healthy for us and who am I to disagree?:D Generally we share a bar and I have about 3 syns worth. Just a small choc hit with my evening cuppa.

Your evening sounds great mim. I'd love to see pics. I used to go to loads of dinner dances until I settled down with a DH with two left feet! We went to the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool a couple of years ago (just for a coffee and a look around) I was itching to get up and dance but no partner.:( I'd really recommend going there. The floor is amazing and loads of dance enthusiasts just practising and having a good time. I get my dancing fix (and BM;)) from Scottish these days.

    EE plan for today:
B: NAS Ribena, HEB toast, scrambled eggs, HEA milk
L: JP with cottage cheese, spring onions and beetroot
D: lamb shank (cooked on bed of parsnip, leeks and carrots) with SW roasties, cauli broccoli and cabbage
Syns: squirt of HP, weekend wine:j
  • maman wrote: »
No, not the best idea but like crabapple, that's what happens when my DH is left unsupervised to cook.
    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

mumoftwo, I buy Aldi's Moser Roth 70% dark chocolate with 5 x 25g bars in a pack. DH and I share a bar and I try to have the 'smaller' half. Lidl's sound even better with just 12.5g in a small bar. I'm sure lantanna will report back soon on the brand.

Looked for these in Lidl yesterday but couldn't find them :(

retiredlady - welcome on board and please don't be a stranger. Your loss so far is absolutely amazing. Keep up your good work. :T

Re the forthcoming SW changes in the New Year - I struggle at times when they decide to change things. I can understand that processed food can change with recipes or the size of tins and packs change which will alter the syn value. But when it comes to things that are unprocessed that's what I struggle with, how you can have something at one time then they decide to change it so it is now/or not a hex for example. I suppose we shall have to wait for the big reveal. :D When I did SW many years ago there was only red and green days and mixing the two was unheard of. When I started SW in March I struggled to get my head around the idea of mixing the two (EE) and still managing to lose weight. Well I suppose nine months down the line and 5st lighter I will readily admit - yes it does work :rotfl::rotfl:

OH took me to the Tower Ballroom back in July as an anniversary treat. We are hoping to go back again in April next year whilst we have our ballroom weekend. Lovely place, really enjoyed it.

I'm glad the low carb way of eating suits you retiredlady. It's too strict for me hence loving SW. After 30 years of dieting and done it all, atkins, low carbing, WW etc etc. Slimming world suits me best cause no food groups are excluded. If that makes my weightloss slow, so be it.
