Haha. Seriously though, is it manageable without going overboard on syns? It's not a place I've been to, but I've heard you can have healthy fillings. If they do wholemeal baguettes you could use a HEb to reduce the syns and have lots of salad and free food in it, or leave the bread.
Life wouldn't be worth living if you can't have a treat now and then, so you could use flexible syns if it's something you're going to enjoy.

Morning all
Well we had an unexpected meal out last night - we were planning to have jacket potatoes and left-over beef tagine, but friends popped round just as I was about to pop the spuds in the oven and said they were going for menu del dia. The choices were prawn cocktail or soup for starters followed by swordfish or pork shank with salad or chips, so we decided it would be okay if we didn't have chips. It was really nice too. The good thing about being in Spain is that the restaurants do good salad, it's not just a garnish like you get in the UK sometimes!
We really will have to use up that leftover tagine though so that's on the menu for later.
Have a good weekend everyone.

you can have a subway, the salad platter is free (turkey, I think) and the sweet onion dressing is low in syns
We are going to a place where they do a carvery to celebrate DH's birthday. That would be ok to stay on plan, wouldn't it? They don't smother the meat in butter or oil, do they? I can have lots of veggies etc, will stay away from the gravy etc. I am determined to stay on plan.
wish me luck...0 -

Carvery is quite a good option on SW. The meat is absolutely fine (except for crackling). Things to watch out for at the Toby near here:- they try to fill your plate with a massive Yorkshire so pass on that.
- Unfortunately the roasties are to die for so try to stick to just a couple of small ones
- cauli usually comes in cheese sauce
- baked onions are in oil I think
- it's all too easy to have masses of gravy
It's grey, wet and miserable here. I plan to stay in and make burgers for the freezer this afternoon and I'm going to try that tarragon chicken recipe from the SW mag.
Bought some little cherry peppers in brine in Aldi yesterday to add to my pickle collection!
Today's EE menu:
B: NAS Ribena, HEB bread, kippers, HEA milk
L: JP with cottage cheese and picklestarragon chicken, rosemary potatoes with carrots and green beans
Syns: scrape of spread, weekend wine, I think half a syn in the chicken for Dijon mustard.0 -
So the flavourings have arrived..
Unfortunately I forgot that I have reaaallllyy sensitive tastebuds where alcohol is concerned, hence the reason I don't drink _pale_ so what ever they make flavourings out of must contain some sort of alcohol based chemical and all I could taste was bitternessmy tongue is actually still tingling from the amaretto one..
I think they need a bit of sweetness added in to make them palatable especially with quark as that is quite bitter anyway, OH said they were ok..
I'm sure people who have a tendency to enjoy alcoholmay enjoy them more than me :rotfl:
So verdict - the SW consultant that suggested them seems to like them, but they're not for me and not worth the money - they'll be ok in cakes (the original purpose) so i'll use them up easily as I do a lot of baking for others so not a waste in this houseMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Thanks for the review of the flavourings Shala.
I've survived the carvery, had a slice each of gammon, turkey and beef and lots of veg: sprouts, green beans and carrots. They didn't have just boiled potatoes so didn't have any and no Yorkshire pudding or gravy. (Polishing my halo). I'm really proud of myself, everyone else's plates were piled high and for the first time ever it didn't bother me that they had chips etc. everyone was too full for pudding so that was that temptation out of the way as well. Now to survive Saturday night munch attack and I'll be fine, lol0 -

wiz, I think if it was me I'd forego some of the milk and make it an EE day. You seem to have plenty of SF in there and then you can have as much steak as you like instead of a measly 95g.:)0
