I will be interested to see what the ready meals are like.
I make no secret of the face I buy the odd ready meal.
I usually then pad it out with veg.
Sometimes I just do not have the energy to cook.

  • Hello and good evening all

Jumping on the SW wagon again tomorrow or Wednesday but really need some help and advice....please

Firstly, I am a garbage cook (I didn't get fat on eating big meals, more on eating too many biscuits, chocs, sweets, toast and butter......) so I have a rubbish imagination.

I am going straight onto 2 x 12hr days which I have planned a Red day for - porridge breakfast, ham salad lunch, bacon and mushrooms and tomatoes and egg on toast for tea.

But then I go onto 4 x 12hr nights. How do you night folk manage? I normally eat around 2am and then at 5 need a true sugar fix. What are the best things to eat on nights please that will stop me reaching for biccies at 5!

Now going to sit with pen and paper and read through your menus for inspiration. I have just got bigger and bigger and it is truly depressing, but tomorrow will be the first day of my new me!!

    Thank you in advance

  • I'm back from wi and reporting a 3.5lb loss this week :j Only 1lb to go to my 5st shiney but I daren't think too much about it as sometimes its those last lbs can become rather elusive and difficult to catch but I will be making a proper effort to get hold of the little blighter. ;)

Just remember the feeling Crabapple of getting those 14 jeans - you will be back on the SW wagon before you know it. I only dream of the day of squeezing into 14s. :rotfl::rotfl:

You've had an amazing couple of weeks erin. Good luck with week 3.

Welcome to our gang grumpyoldgal.

Good grief, this thread’s moved fast since last night!

    Welcome, barneydee and grumpyoldgal.

Glad to hear of losses, jock, b_e_g and blinkered.

Denise, beetroot is fab with fish and chips.

Maman, I like the wee loaf, as a sandwich made with 2 wee slices looks more than one made with one big slice. It annoys me that it’s more expensive to buy wee loaves though.

I probably will not buy the ready meals because
    a) they are unlikely to represent good value
    b) I don’t find them filling
    c) I haven’t had a ready meal since I started SW (I have had things like saucy fish co offerings).

Inazuma – no no no I love winter wonderland choc. I must not buy any this year. Last year I bought loads with the intention of putting them in as a wee extra treat with Christmas presents. Except I didn’t do that, did I? No, no, no - I ate them, every one. (turns red with embarrassment).

Well, I had my final fishy breakfast and lunch today. And, as expected, I fell off the wagon big time at granddaughter’s birthday tea. Nuff said.

WI in the morning. Let’s hope fishy week has had a good effect.

Breakfast: hexb fruit ‘n’ fibre with a banana and a splash hexa milk
    Lunch: HM lentil soup
Dinner: macaroni cheese (8.5 syns) using hexa cheese, tomatoes, beetroot with fruit salad
    Snacks: 2 garibaldis (4 syns)

    Total planned syns: 12,5

    That's all folks, Goodnight.

ETA - I will use packets of pasta 'n' sauce/mug shot, so maybe I'm being a bit hypocritical over my attitude to ready meals.

    Evening all :)
Thanks maman :) yes Penzance was weekend before last. Enjoyed my pasties and my scrumpy and came back with just a 1lb gain! Not too bad. I've been quite good this week though.
My consultant is lovely and her heart is in the right place but she does annoy me slightly- like tonight in Image Therapy she ignored me completely as she had spent so long gushing over those not yet at target who have lost huge amounts of weight  I get the feeling because I called target at 'only' 2st 4 and for the wrong reasons she's not interested :(
We had the inevitable ready meal discussion. As well as the frozen ready meals there's going to be sauces in jars as well which might be interesting. I declared I plan to exist solely on SW ready meals and I wasn't far from joking..!! I'm betting there won't be many veggie options though so I may find I'm using more of the sauces on my Quorn pieces or quorn mince :) however I do eat chicken so hopefully there will be some good options. And apparantly the portion sizes will be generous as well. We shall see! Hopefully they will be launched sooner rather than later :) I know some people are dead against them but I honestly think they will be a good idea. I've always had to be slightly inventive with the sort of things I eat but there aren't many ready meals out there that are SW friendly. Even when we did have cooking facilities I didn't use them as I'm happy to admit I can't cook. My dyscalculia means I can't grasp cooking times so it was difficult for me. With a microwave I can just press the button x amount of times and generally can get it about right.
So it's not just for lazy people it will really benefit those of us who aren't able to just whip up amazing SW meals from scratch. Also because Iceland are doing them I'm guessing they will be reasonably priced which is good as I will have to pay for my own (OH buys the shopping but he won't entertain doing a separate Iceland shop) and my ESA doesn't stretch very far. So I'm firmly in the pro-ready meal camp :)

    Yeah, that's great!!:T

I thought you'd be interested in the ready meals MrsR and I can think of lots of ways they could be useful and certainly not just for lazy people!! Thanks for the sauce info. I know what you mean about consultants and target members but I suppose we don't make them any money. I find just going every few weeks is enough.

Hi Maman and thank you for your post. I am doing SW at home on my own as I work when my local classes are run and am not 100% sure what I am doing yet. I have ordered a starter pack but am still waiting for it to arrive and am at present going off information gained from the internet.
In the way of treats I adore Cheese, most varieties, Onken fat free strawberry yogurt, Tesco Scotch pancakes, Cadburys chocolate and Toblerone, and I can't say no to jam roly poly and custard!

Well you could have had 15 syns worth of these today !! I don't know if you're saving up syns for the weekend or anything but you really shouldn't go without. A large pot of the Onken yogurt is only 5.5 syns so enjoy it!!

Welcome grumpy. There are low syn things you can have that are sweet. One of my favourites is frozen berries with think Greek style yogurt and sweetener all stirred around until it goes pink! Talking of pink, those pink and white wafer biscuits are quite low syn (I think about 2/2.5). Your other option would be to save your syns and HEXs for when you need that hit.

As for your meal at night, I suppose it depends on the facilities you have. This time of the year I'd definitely have soup. It's really not difficult to make and some tins are are HEXs. Tinned spaghetti, some ravioli. That's if you can heat things up. Let us know what sort of thing would suit your circumstances.

I didn't need another meal tonight, just a quick snack of a cold potato, beetroot and a bit of cold meat grabbed from fridge.
