Maman, I make the below savoury mince

    Syn free on EE

    Serves 4

    Ingredients:
    500g extra lean mince beef
2 medium onions, peeled and roughly chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
3 medium carrots, peeled and roughly chopped
2 medium sized potatoes, peeled and chopped into 2cm squares
    200g button mushrooms
    1 cup of frozen peas
    5 beef oxo cubes (crumbled)
    800ml hot water
    5 tbsp tomato puree
    Frylight
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

    Method:

Place a large frying pan with Frylight and place over a medium heat and brown the onions, add the garlic and cook for a minute.
Add the mince, season and mix well and cook until browned then add potatoes, carrots, tomato puree, oxo cubes and hot water, mix well and cover. Cook for 40-45 minutes stirring every now and then. (If it starts to thicken up just add a little more water)
Remove the lid, add the mushrooms and peas and cook until it thickens. This should take about 10 minutes.
    Check seasoning and serve.

I use about 2/3 of a bag of baby or new potatoes instead for the skin fibre and serve on top of a pile of SF; broccoli, cabbage and more carrots tonight.

    Today

B - Mushroom omelette and plum tomatoes

D - Chicken savoury rice and a big salad with chopped ham in. Packet of ryvita minis (HEXB) and an apple

T - Savoury rice and vegetables as above

Subs - Sainsburys popcorn (2.5) and an options (2)

    HEXA milk through the day.

BM - usual work and school run.

Still plodding on, thank God for my wonderful friends, I'd have been lost without them.

And to hell with men *

    * Apologies if we have acquired any in my absence, but I'm justified at the moment.

Hi ginvzt - Not sure how many syns you are allowing each day, but it looks like today's menu had quite a few (I'm sure Maman or someone will correct me if I'm wrong). I think rice pancakes will be quite high in syns as will the vanilla eclair, cafe au lait & hoisin sauce,

When I first started trying to lose weight I did not think I ate very much, but recently have come to the conclusion my portion sizes are just too big. This was emphasized even more whilst I was away for a few days recently. The meals served at the hotel seemed rather sparce but then it dawned on me that perhaps this was what 'normal' looked like! Since then I have been concentrating on portion control. I am using myfitnesspal to log everything I eat, it logs calories which I know isn't SW way but it helps me to see when I am eating too much, so I know when to stop.

I do hope you don't find this too critical as I'm hoping it will be helpful.

No, not critical at all. The eclair was a treat, I know. It was not a big one with cream, it was not covered wit the choc, filled with creme pattiserie and not overfilled like the ones from Tesco used to be (I am not looking for an excuse, really, it was probably all the syns for the day if not more, have no idea), caffe au lait - milk from HeB, I do not use sugar in coffee. Honey - 3 syns? Soup wold have had some too, I am sure. Butter - 2 syns. Hoisin sauce - 2 syns.

So, I would think it was 7-8 calories plus eclair and soup. I don't have all my syns every day though. It was supposed to be our day, I buy the new pphone (did not, as they didn't have them is stock). Probably not the wisest of ideas on the day before WI!!!!!!!

Thanks so much for the recipe topgirl. Only tonight DH was saying we hadn't had cottage pie for ages. I think I'll make the savoury mince, keep the potatoes out, and use one portion for a pie and then freeze the other half to have with new potatoes.

It's probably the cake that's pushed it from an OK day to really high but if you've been saving syns for a treat then that's fine. If I have coffee when I'm out I tend to go for an Americano with a small jug of hot milk that I count as part of my HEA. Lattes can be very high syn so not sure where the caf! au lait lies on that spectrum.

Overall I don't think your meals are that big. My own portions are large but I only have single courses whereas when you're in restaurants they mostly make them to be part of a 3 course meal.

Up early again this morning (5am!) to take DH to work so that I can have the car to go to the dentist - it's only a checkup so hopefully the dentist won't find anything needs doing! Only needed milk but bought that yesterday so no need to go to the shops today.

Looks like I'm having a full week of EE for some reason as I like to have one or two Green days usually:

B - porridge made with water, Mullerlight, banana
L - Sweet chilli prawn noodles with loads of chopped salady bits
D - some kind of hash as still have quite a bit of pulled pork left will add some chopped potatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms etc so plenty of SFs!

    HEA - milk
    HEB - porridge
Syns - sweet chilli sauce 1.5; fruit split 3; not sure if anything else

    Denise
