  • Well I am afraid that I am absolutely no help on the gardening and growing front , so there will be no top tips for me ! I have grand illusions of growing our own veg and being self sufficient and all that jazz but I cant even keep a patio tub of geraniums alive so there's no hope for me !! Good luck though !

I do think Mrs B has had a good idea though with the possibility of renting out some land . My MIL and Step FIL have alot of land, they keep some for themselves , the field behind the house is for sheep and cows I think ( we dont see them much :o ) and they also have built some stables and rent them out. It does help though that they have an additional access area so no-one needs to wander through their garden and they still have their own privacy. Worth thinking about though.

Don't aim too big for starters No One, anything you do however tiny to improve the situation is great and it can be very satisfying !

    Enjoy your day

Re the garden, there's a scheme that connects landowners (or big garden owners!) with people looking for room to grow http://www.landshare.net/community/ You don't charge for use of the land, but are likely to get some share of the benefits (crop, improved maintenance.....raised beds? :D).
  • Hope the debt busting is going OK, NOA.

Thanks Mrs PG ......there's been a seed planted in my mind about the renting by Brizzledfw...... keep mulling it over.... thinking at the moment though that it would feel like an invasion of privacy , the garden is my little piece of heaven when all else gets me down. it goes round three sides of the house so not really a piece of land as such......but can't get thought out of my head now.....

Off out soon, will have 30 minutes in the car waiting between taxi jobs (i.e.kids) - will take a note pad for some thoughts :)

    Happy Day

  • So,
an approximate spend summary for the last few days

Groceries - £55 will need to top up Thurs/Fri (max £75)

Boots for daughter - 2 pairs for £40 Bargain! not often you get stuff you like and the size is available in the sales:) so footwear sorted for uni

New Laptop for daughter -researched /chosen = £319 will buy tomorrow

2 meal deal lunch £6 (daughter doing volunteering work this week)

£15 on hockey stick and shinpads for son
    £27 on new sports kit

So quite a bit of necessary extra expenditure.

But earned extra £30 at weekend and offered 3-4 bank hours at school on Friday and a few more booked in already on some days in October/November.

Haven't got round to policies yet to reduce cost , but did look at electricity again today . Could pay £5 a month cheaper but it is from one of the newer suppliers with no customer service record so not sure whether to change.

Transferred 5 more DD's to new bank account.

And thought lots about growing things today. So feeling good and refusing to let OH attitude get me down.

Going for an early night ....Want to concentrate on filling a job application tomorrow.

Sandman ----please sprinkle lots of sleep dust tonight :)

    Good night all xx

Due to addictive nature of this site have promised not to look again until lunchtime :pFailed miserably!

    Todays urgent tasks

Job application (full time job one year contract - perfect location) Looking at now (well not right now) but have found another possible one to apply for too on gumtree
    Emails re: business clients Done

    Emails re: voluntary work Done

Complete transfers of DD's on both business/personal bank account.
Washing white shirts x8 (remember to switch machine on after loading) Done

Wash one garden pot and plant seeds.

If time go into town early before school run and buy lap top. Done £326

Also reviewed electricity, submitted reading to get updated bill ---have reduced consumption by over 10% over last 6 months (well done me for continuing to nag re: lights off, unplug all, etc etc) .....have decided not to bother changing to less well known provider.

Tweak spreadsheet for budget and work out shortfall.

This is an amazing link- there are some helpers and growers (mainly for community projects) within a few miles of our house ......definitely worth enquiring

On list of things to do.
