Incredible pictures NOA. Really beautiful garden you have!!

We all neglect ourselves and we just get to a point where it isn't sustainable. Your purchases are well through out and necessity :) well done you! Now I just need to get you kondo-ing it all :p am spending my evening relaxing by folding.. every item of clothing in my wardrobe drawers properly :rotfl:

The other thing I wanted to check with the reflux is.. you don't drink fizzy drinks do you? I had the most horrific reaction to two cans of pop last night. Woke up with awful tummy cramps, bloating and just felt awful, no energy etc all day. Not a great day for it when running around on Jellys 3rd birthday!! xx

Thank you Lilty - I think I've mentioned it before - its my little bit of heaven - rather wild as we just can't keep on top of everything. I'll post a pick of the cherry tree my dad planted when its in blossom :).

I don't drink fizzies at all, or juice - just water and tea (which I have really cut down on now). Only drink alcohol occasionally now as always so tired. I don't eat over rich food though do like spicy, but even eating bland foods doesn't help. Also just realised may not have replied to you suggestions about sleep and Kalms - nothing works really. Occasionally take Nytol (herbal one doesn't have any effect) when I am really struggling, but don't like to take them too frequently.

Sounds like you had a lovely day with Jelly, I loved the toddler years :) I popped over earlier. Am off to have a soak now:)
I have seen a few of the Kondo videos and it all looks great - I just need to empty out my wardrobes big time. Was meant to be doing that today but it was too nice to stay in.
Hope you are doing OK Lilty, amazing you still find time to go round supporting everyone else with all that has happened in recent weeks:A.
    Love

Don't be cross B - ruse perhaps was not the best choice of word!
Felt guilty about the spending but I haven't bought any clothes for a very long while. All goes on DD and DS, but I have worked really hard in last few months, honest:o

Morning Everyone -looks like its going to be another scorcher of a day today:)

I love this poem, haven't read it in a long time.
It's My Thought for Today (I didn't do Latin at school so remember having to look up what Invictus meant the first time I read it years ago - "Unconquered").

    Invictus By William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Have a Lovely Day Everyone :)

    Thanks Granny, Lilty, E-E :)
All great advice and something I I have been thinking I need to try for a while - very difficult for someone who loves bread and cheese! I don't over eat - in fact over last two years have really cut down on portion sizes. It used to be red meat that caused it and we only really have that occasionally now. I have cut out coffee and reduced tea top 1-2 cups per day. Have tried reducing bread but hasn't made much difference - but that's obviously not cutting out gluten.

The acid reflux is constant - not just after meals - and my throat hurts all the time (the worrying bit). Don't have tummy cramps or pains though like some people describe. Jaw aches all the time (bruxism) so have had to wear mouthguard to stop teeth wearing, this has caused neck pain and one sided headache which is there constantly. Chronic insomnia. Never talk much about it as there is no point. Nothing that I can't deal with as there are people who really suffer with much worse, all of it is a nagging background pain and discomfort that never goes away no matter what I try (at least three years now), cannot remember what it feels like to feel 100%:(.

Have no choice now but to try gluten and dairy reduction, so will be grateful for any tips:)

I am just wondering if you should cut out one or the other first otherwise you won't know what is causing your issues?

I too thought I could never survive without bread - I love toast- but surprisingly I don't miss 'proper' bread and gluten free bread is quite nice.

When I did my initial 2 weeks off gluten I did not buy anything gluten free and just based my meals around things I could eat. After 2 weeks when I decided to remain gluten free my first purchase was gf plain flour so I could make Yorkshire puddings, after another few weeks I added gf bread.

Since then I have tried different bits and pieces but too be honest I am happy without a gf alternative.

Going back to the symptoms of gluten intolerance, everyone I spoke to got the upset tummy but I never got that and got the bad pain but not many seem to get that.

Sorry, no ideas on acid reflux as never had it.

I am concerned about your other pains - my DH has a diagnosis of chronic unilateral headache. He has had the same headache for 4 years now:(
Although I haven't had it I do feel for you as I know my DH struggles a lot and also attempted suicide as he cannot live with the pain.
It is much more under control now and he manages quite well but we never go anywhere noisy and he must not concentrate for too long at one time - a normal book can take him 8 weeks to read as he does about 2 or 3 pages a night!!

Could you get a referral to a neurologist? My husband is under a very good one who travels up from London

Unfortunately jaw and teeth issues do cause headaches and since my DH had a back tooth removed (although it had caused him no problems for 3.5 yrs he got toothache and the dentisit opted to remove it) and it eased his trigeminal pain.

You have a beautiful garden :smileyhea I really miss having a nice garden .

My DD complained of terrible tummy aches for months/years/ I forget how long :( took her to the drs...."all kids get tummy aches" Me:"yes but not EVERY night for months on end which causes them to cry and cry". Dr: " it's more common than you think actually". Totally useless. So I started on a little experiment of looking at what she was eating, my DD is a cheese fiend (unlike me I can't stand it on it's own, yuk!) so we cut that out first. ALL dairy, it cured the tummy aches almost instantly. Stupid DRS . All they had to do on one of the several times I brought her was suggest I try that....!!! Perhaps you are allergic/intolerant to something too as others have suggested?

DD still gets cheese every now and then as she looks so sad if she misses out on pizza or a bit sprinkled on her jacket potato but i always tell her she will get a tummy ache and she usually says no thank you, sometimes she still wants it though. School have been very good too and finally took me seriously (firstly told me tough the choices were the ones on the menu and that was it  they soon changed their tune when she continually was sent to sick bay after custard, milk drinks or such other things). I'm happy as I thought it was stress to begin with (she's super sensitive!) i'd much rather a food intolerance than that :)

Hope you have a lovely day :A

dfw I am with your DD. Some things are worth the tummy problems... cheese is one, and banana milkshake is another ;) your docs are awful. I took Jellytot once, told them flat out she was dairy intolerant. He asked me why, and I told him the symptoms (she was 8 weeks old) and he agreed with me and when I moved from breastfeeding he immediately put a prescription through for the dairy free formula :) it is the protein in dairy that she is highly intolerant to (same with me) not the sugars (lactose) that the other 98% of sufferers are! Dietician was awful though... no use at all.

NOA what a gorgeous poem. Really lovely... :) xx

    Thanks E-E,
I'm sorry you OH has suffered so badly with the headaches. I did have some physio, it helped a bit but didn't resolve the headaches. I have been offered steroid injections in the jaw for short term relief butt o be honest I hate things like that and have a fear of drs and hospitals. I suffer more on days I don't have things to focus on. I think it is all stress/worry induced. I have found that on the days I can focus on something intensively I can temporarily block out thinking about the symptoms. That's why the exam marking work has been such a Godsend - intensive, needs concentration and focus, is important to give candidates fairness, is "easy" for me, you don't take it home with you, I don't have to take the contracts if I don't want to, and it pays!
I will start next week by eliminating gluten as I have a feeling it is t hat rather than dairy, but will do it systematically as you suggest. If it turns out to be that will be looking for some decent tried and tested recipes!
I will also make time to look up your diary - have seen your posts on other dairies - don't you wish there were 48 hours in a day? or would that make life even more stressful?:rotfl:

Thanks DFW:) I do love the outdoors :) and pottering outside is meditative.

I'm glad you got to the bottom of DD's tummy issues despite the doctors! I think mums know intuitively about these things. I remember when DS was little and he had a persistent cough the DR was adamant he had asthma. I kept telling him wasn't but he kept insisting on prescribing inhalers and steroids. I started but didn't give them to him after a couple of days because it didn't feel right. Eventually an xray showed he had had a chest infection that left some scarring on the lungs, but it wasn't asthma. He phoned to apologise after the results came through and to tell me not to continue with the prescriptions - was very satisfying to tell him I had not really started! My own gp takes me very seriously and knows I am good at self diagnosis (knows I have a background in a science and that I actually understand and can't be fobbed off!

I hope its just a food intolerance - will do the necessary experiments to eliminate - my worry is that the acid reflux is damaging the lining of the oesophagus hence constant throat pain.
