I wish I was in demand like your Hub :( !! Well done him - the quality shines through :) !!

I was actually approached by a competitor last week - rather less 'flash' and smaller than us and I had a telephone conversation with them. They'd have to make a special case to get the pay to match my current job and then there's their poor pension scheme.......:( I'll just have to keep on keeping on :).

The experience did me good. It caused me to look at my package and realise it was worth quite a lot (and I'm going to 'compartmentalise' the whole thing so it doesn't matter to me if someone is earning more for achieving less - as they are.) What matters is what, once a month hits the Gnats Vest pre & post retirement :) !!

    Have a lovely day,

  • Hi

I have just read your diary and wanted to say well done you're doing amazing.
You're obviously a great mum and work hard at juggling the finances and keeping on track.
Keep on keeping on..keep moving forward x

PS I don't know if I missed a post but did you ask about the Bursary at school?

    HI Keeping Motivated!
Realised I forgot to reply to your question re bursary.....I did ask and submitted some figures but on paper it still looks like we are asset rich (shares which are really my sisters now as she loaned £18K) and equity in house of £250-300 of which 72K is debt. Plus income is just over the threshhold :(
Will look again in summer for next academic year.

Fabulous news re OH's THREE job offers. Wonderful for confidence boost. I think you have handled the last three months brilliantly! Very stoically too.
I hope that this is the beginning of the upturn for your lovely family.

Thank you Verbatim - AM really happy for him as I think he has been in a very dark place - has only just started opening up...his company have not had enough work for him for him since the summer- they have been overpricing themselves out of contracts despite him saying otherwise. As a result he has been worried sick over his current job - if he lost that @47 K we would lose house and everything. For him to know he is valued for his experience in the field is a major boost, and some warmth in the house would be most welcome and make it a home again :)
Thank you for your support :A

  • Ah NOA, so lovely to read about Hubby and his three job offers.

Makes you look at him in a different light really as being a man he has been stoic, kept it all to himself and not told you what has been worrying him. The amount of pressure he must have been feeling is probably a good reason why he has been moody and less than on board recently. With DD flying the nest and your LBM causing instant household changes, not to mention that underneath all that sand, he does know that you have 72k of unsecured debt to think about... it is obvious really as to why he has been a snappy so and so and less than helpful.

Believe me when I say, I know you have had 90% of those worries, plus your own to think about - (how is Dad btw?) but us women deal with things in a different fashion. Maybe now you can work as more of a team to tackle everything head on. :)

Ref the company car, I know that my work, being small does not offer a company car scheme as it is not economical tax-wise. My BiL meanwhile has only ever had company cars in every job he has ever been in, and crucially he has always had his petrol covered for all work related driving, and he gets to use the car as he pleases outside working hours. In that way it saves him a fortune. So really, the crux of it is, yes it will cost him in tax, but does he get subsidised and can he use it how he pleases? If so it is a major coup.

I am sure DD will be finding it just as strange being away from you on her bday as you find it without her. My MiL came over today, the day after Him's birthday to see him as she was working yesterday and he came over Weds morning as usual to stay til tonight. She grabbed him for a huge squeeze and called him her special boy. He is 24 :) - he loved it just as much as she did, and she drives him bonkers half the time.

Big hugs. You are doing so well.xxx

Oh, and granny I cracked out laughing at your picture! :D xxx

    Hi Noah,

I do miss the days of christmas fairs as well, although to be honest I did go with my neighbour and her children a few years back and it was in some smelly church hall with basic tins of food on the bottle stall...so that's my last memory of them...!!

I have brought you a HSxmastree.gif it is fully decorated and loaded with presents so saves you a job... (if only...)..

I used to have a company car and never realised how much tax (well I was only 21...) it cost me..! I had them for 15 years and then discovered how much I prefered driving an old banger and keeping all my money...!! I'm sure your OH will pick the best job for him and at least if he makes the sole decision its his fault if he chooses wrong... !!

Glad friday went ok, well as well as they can.. and hope you enjoyed having dd back.. won't be long until she's back for christmas I imagine...!!! We haven't seen hide nor hair of my stepson since summer.. He loves uni life... a little too much maybe...!!!

Catch up soon and take care of you.

    Puzz. xx

    Hi Puzz
Oooooh Lovely Tree! and fully decorated with pressies under too!! What a huge job it would have saved me ....and I would return the favour by waving a magic wonder and making all your worries disappear :)

DD is loving uni life and am so happy for her she'll be home 13/14 dec for 4 weeks :)- glad your stepson is too....am sure he'll be home at Christmas?

Still on 10.10 but did have 6 mince pies over the weekend so am happy for the time being as long as not going up (same sentiments as the debt really:D).
Will pop over later and catch you up!

Reply- longish one- to this post lost in the ether as no matter how many times it happens I still do not learn that I should copy typed text before I click on submit. Which would save me looking like this

An approach from a competitor is great and keeps you on your toes I think ;)- at least you know now that you are on a good package and rest easy for the time being,,knowing that the grass is NOt greener on the other side of the fence.

Hey Lilt, Thanks for your lovely post, I'm just relieved about it all really because its been a miserable 3 months had it not been for your guys:). Just wish he had remembered earlier that we are meant to be supporting each other - but he got there in the end and that's the main thing.

Decisions made over the weekend, as to which job, he has made decision himself as I made sure I said that he needs to take JOB he wants regardless of my feelings on journey and money. He's being So-o-o--o HELPFUL I am taking advantage in every possible way :D He came dishwasher shopping yesterday and helped drop DS off at friends house and wasn't negative on my meagre £50 worth of sales at the preschool fair I did etc he did make a comment about my very messy desk but I let that wash over me with a "when I have a tidy desk I'll know I have too much time on my hands and not enough work" ;)

    Mums and kids -
"A mother holds her children's hands for a little while, their hearts forever" - See this everywhere! Of course Him enjoyed being hugged as much as MiL:)

I' ll be over to yours later to - I think you posted on someone's page that Jelly's room is finished - sounds fantastic:T

    Good morning NOA :)

Am so sorry to hear about the car. just before Christmas as well. I would have fainted! This is why we need emergency funds eh? Easier said than done though, truly!!

Good luck on getting the project done and invoiced to pay before Christmas - big hugs and keep going :) xx

Oooh we cross posted there!! I am glad he has finally remembered you are meant to support each other. Men are funny creatures. They bottle it all up and then explode. :) Yes Jellys room is complete although I need to organise a new carlet. The pic I put up is a bit of an odd shape. Her room looks very high ceilinged (it is) but very narrow and it isn't nearly that narrow! :)
