Hi NOA Have been reading but not keeping up well so its all skim reading really....but I am getting the gist of it all......going through the mill a bit. This is just a very quick note to say thinking of you!! Ostrich OHs scammers and just general meh. GRRRR! Dont you just want to runaway. I am sure thee will be an upturn soon :) Have you been away yet?

Great to read DD passed test my DD2 passed hers earlier this year and at first I thought I would hate it but all of a sudden I had time on my hands as I wasnt being Mum's Taxi :D All her friends have had cars bought for them.........in families who IMO cant afford to ( state benefits, ESA claiments, low incomes - maybe just showing my prejudice/ignorance here !) But we did the sums and it was not going to happen - DD1 has never taken a test but as soon as she does I am sure if we had provided one DD with a car then it would only fair the other had one too  So we put her on the insurance of OHs car ( too much to be on mine and I work everyday and longer hours than OH !) but its only until she ( if she) goes to uni in Sept - insurance due for renewal then as it happens so we will re asses situ then ! Oh its all fun and games isnt it :o

Hope you feeling more upbeat soon :D

NOA - so sorry about those low lifes scamming your poor parents. They should be thrown in jail!

Thanks Bob. Seems to have been a spate of this recently, a number of friends and colleagues have mentioned near misses, in different areas too. Don't know how people who do that sort of thing can sleep at night.

    Hello NOA, :hello:

Just popping in (and signed up to follow ;)).

So sorry to hear about the hassles your parents have had with rogue workmen. :(
My Dad had a few try it on in his latter years; he knew he was vulnerable but worked out a little trick which might assist your folks..
When faced with an over-pushy bloke pressing him to sign up for repairs he wasn't sure were necessary, he'd lock the door firmly behind him and say:
"I'm sorry for not being able to make a decision, but I think we need to speak to my neighbour about this. He's the retired Chief Constable and is so kind, always gives good advice to an old fart like me! Come along, it's only next door, we'll go and have a chat with him now."
..That sorted out scammers from genuine tradesman in the time it took the former to leap in their vans and drive away! :rotfl:

On another tack, the insurance quote you got for your DD sounds great - which company is it with, please (the best my DS found after passing his test was £1800 - for a car which the ex-owner gave to him as she thought it wasn't worth selling!)?

ETA: Belated Happy Anniversary - hope you had a special day! :)

Hello Robin :) Lovely to see you,
Thant Sounds like a really good idea, In the past I have told mum and dad to give them my number to discuss with me, but they never do. They are always so worried about imposing on other people.
Reminds me of someone who came out to fix our dishwasher years ago. He advertised as dealing with all makes, ours was a Bos*h so pretty standard. He turned up and didn't even have a set of allan keys to open the panel:eek:, and had to go and get some. He came back and poked around, I was watching whilst appearing to be busy;), and was getting a bit nervous. He then said that he'd have to take the appliance away because of what was wrong with it. So when I started questioning why he needed to take it away, and exactly what was wrong, he just put put up his hands, packed his tools, and virtually ran out the door, saying " you obviously don't trust me so I'm not going to do this job" - just because I asked some questions - I was saying, no it's not that, I just want to know a bit more about what's wrong etc... but he was running out the door and I ended up talking to his back!!!! Reported him to trading standards, just in case he was a scammer - don't know what happened after that but at least they had a records in case someone else reported him too.

Insurance Co was H*astings - came up through Confusssed.com.
DDs premium might be a bit lower as she effectively had 1 year no claims due to have provisional insurance in her own name for a year. Car is really old and only worth £500, teeny little Peugt 206.

Thanks for your good wishes re anniversary - DS could edit cooked! a Thai curry on the day, DH had forgotten :rotfl: but we were out last night in a hospitality suite at local event and it was very nice.... and FREE!!! very MSE, :rotfl: not much romance but pleasant evening nonetheless. :)

    Have a lovely day

    Hello Igamogam:)
I hope that you are relaxing a bit after your hectic end of term - and started on your staycation - will pop over later to catch up:) - I have booked to go to the west country in the big national park ;) in a nice place to stay, feel very guilty but we did nothing last year at all. Last week of August:).

We got the car last year from someone in village in exchange for some work we did for them :) - it's only worth about £500-600. DD then paid about £450 for her provisional insurance last year, I had to get a policy on it too but it was only £150, I didn't realise at the time but this has built up 1 year no claim for her (only recognised by some companies though). I have paid her insurance this year, as I have not had to give her any money this year ( she has maintenance loan plus savings from last summer, and has worked again this summer). The idea is in a year's time, she'll get herself something better, and DS can use it to learn to drive on. My car is automatic so not suitable and DH has a company car now). All her birthday pressies since she was 18 have been driving lessons and car related. Some of her friends got given brand new cars on their 18th  So I don't really think we have been extravagant in the slightest, it is an extra cost but it will hopefully cut down the amount of driving I have to do when she's home :)

Yes, you do have to do the same for both - I'm always very conscious of that - they both try and catch me out all the time with one thing or another :rotfl: Each of them try and get me to say that they are my favourite child - hasn't worked to date:rotfl:

End of July:eek: Christmas stuff will be in the shops in the next 2 or 3 weeks:eek::rotfl:

Not a very productive weekend but quite nice - free evening out on Friday night - (I reckon I could easily claim £200 wombling for that Bob:p - will pop over when I get a quick mo ;)) Didn't take my meds so I could have a drink or two ;) or three:rotfl: but I stopped after that, honest guv :D
washing/gardening/de scaling showers and other horrid jobs on Saturday all started but none finished:o) but hey ho.
Visited my sister and her family today - 3 hours driving in total but it was a good run and no traffic. Best of all, I decluttered 4 items from garage. 2 bikes and 2 scooters which have sat doing nothing for the last 8 years odd, bikes virtually brand new as my two outgrew them plus not very good area for cycling - too far to anywhere! Could have sold them but given them to my sister as both bikes just right size for her two:T Also took another once used bit of science kit, brand new still boxed, they are just the right age to have fun with it this summer. :T kids were thrilled to bits and it has saved my sister £270 had she bought all the stuff new.

Just picked up DD, she's been away for the weekend, back to the normal trudge tomorrow, need to get my act together and swallow some frogs - that doesn't sound right - Is that the right phrase - I first heard here on MSE:o along with VAT returns this week.

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend

    Good morning :)
Yesterday flew by but brought some considerable relief from a worry we've had for about 3 weeks about one of us finding a lump - but scan showed all is well - phew.

Got into the garden with DS for a while and we created a large pile of loppings - always very satisfying, just need to repeat about another 1000 times:D

Grocery shopping and a couple of important phone calls made, but other tasks I have been avoiding all week still on the to do list. Will try and do those NOW!!:rotfl:
Back later to say I 've done them hopefully....
    Have a great day!

Very glad to hear the medical worry turned out to be groundless - always worth getting checked sooner rather than later, though. :)

Loppings - aha, I love that garden job or rather the one after; feeding 'em all through a shredder to make a lovely new layer of golden mulch for spreading around the flower beds! ..Happy times (doesn't take much to amuse me, :rotfl:)!

Good luck with your 'tasks of the day' NOA..

ps. Cheers for the good advice you [perhaps unwittingly] passed on yesterday; very well timed.. ;)

Robin - am now intrigued as to what words of wisdom I have shared unknowingly! Umm - small worlds? car related? bees? bikes? drinking? that its nearly Christmas? I ramble on about all sorts!:rotfl:

Have slayed some tasks and laid to rest today but plenty more to go tomorrow.
1)Caught up with all letters to clients :T
2)Student finance supporting application completed for me and DH
    3) Medical appts now all changed to avoid holiday week
    4) Packed ready to post little pressie for niece, just because:)
    5) Caught up somewhat with ironing

VAT return still to do - am avoiding as it will deplete my bank balance significantly - need to pay by Friday:(

Taxi-ing DS tomorrow he has a day out with friend doing field work for a GCSE controlled assessment in September - hope its dry for them.

Off to bed now, sweet dreams all :)

A frustrating day so far - taxi service - 3 hours in car today to-ing and fro-ing - the fieldwork abandoned as sites not accessible so more planning necessary  waste of a day really dropping of, coming home and then getting a call to pick up from same point. Grocery shop done on way back but not planned very well - DS and his friends filled trolley with pizza/chips/fizzy/snacks for sleep over tonight, and I couldn't think clearly enough to disagree, at least they can just sort themselves out.
Just having a cuppa and off out again to pick up DD in her car - she's practising a bit with me as the route to work involves a bit of very busy dual carriageway and motorway roundabout junction which is a nightmare even for me.

Then I think I will nee d to work this evening to play catch up again - might need to do another field work trip tomorrow with DS/friend.

A lot of words to basically say I have achieved nothing today :rotfl:
