I have actually been told by the fraudster they are faking it... It is a Mobility car, checking DVLA proves it.

Have you reported him? And if not, why not?

    No, i haven't.

Tbh, im not sure they would even bother doing anything about it and after the way i have been treated by the DWP, i dont really want to waste any more energy talking to them.

Anyway, i dont want to take this thread off topic.

They will eventually get caught a few years an thousand pounds later.

I don't think that owning the car is relevant. It's the fact of being able to use a new car and not have to pay any finance, road tax or insurance.

I would not begrudge anyone with a disability to have what support and help they need. But what irks me is seeing the less than disabled getting the same benefits.

Maybe I just don't understand, or are cynical.

A relative of mine has a Motability Ford Galaxy. He is apparently disabled, yet can carry a washing machine into his house one day and work underneath their motorhome, yet needs a free car.

A lady down the street has one. Yet is well enough to wash it almost every other day.

I think that is why people wonder sometimes ?

Not all disabilities are visible. Don't judge what you don't understand!

I'm shocked, but not surprised, that people get jealous of a motability vehicle. I sometimes wonder if they understand the concept behind this scheme.

Whilst I appreciate that a Motability car is given in exchange for High Rate Mobility DLA/PIP money which means a person has a severe mobility disability, I have never understood why they are tax and insurance free. Slo could you please explain the concept behind this.

(NB, I am NOT jealous, a young friend of mine has a mobility car and there is no way he would be mobile enough to go anywhere without it, so I do not begrudge him his car in the slightest).

Another benefit to the scheme, which everyone who is a car owner can enjoy, is the fact that once a car is returned there is the option for someone looking for a 2nd hand car to grab a bargain. Most of the cars from Motability have low mileage, they are all serviced annually, and most are spotlessly clean and tidy. It's what I intend to do once I have a bit of money available to buy a replacement car.

    .

We got a really good Skoda Roomster that had been a motability car for a real bargain two years ago. We couldn't have afforded one of that spec and registration from normal list prices.

I hope to do the same if I get enough from my injury at work claim.

I'm running around in a 12 yr old Nissan Almera, which whilst it runs immaculate, except the squeak the alternator develops whenever the the temperature hits freezing, the issue with all older cars is that they need more maintenance which is more expensive.

The benefit of the 2nd hand Motability cars is that you know for a fact they have all been annually serviced, with genuine parts, and the majority have very low mileage and are immaculate.
[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

The motability scheme insures them, they own the car so it makes sense they are in control of the insurance, that way they know it is paid and if their car needs to claim, they can oversee it. The person leasing the car pays for it in the weekly mobility payment, alongside the costs for the lease, servicing etc. As the rental for the cars can be around £60ish a week, and motability can get good deals on insurance due to bulk buying and being a preferred customer etc the insurance can easily be covered within the payment.

Motability needs to know the cars they own are fully up to date on tax, insurance etc, only way to safely do that is if they control it :)
There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.

Regarding car tax: if someone is on HRM (DLA) or Enhanced Rate Mobility (PIP) they qualify for free car tax. Therefore, they get the free tax regardless of whether they have a Motability car or own their own car.

Many people do not know that the Motability scheme costs the taxpayer/country nothing over and above the cost of HRM DLA. The scheme is administered as a charity and is independent of the government.
