Many of us have good reason to reject the offer of help. Sometimes, the offer of "help" can just make things worse.

I've had the experience with my Mum of people leaping in (rather than offering) and 'helpfully' getting a hand under her arm when she was struggling to stand up. They didn't know that she had a painful shoulder and they were making things worse but they should have asked first.

That's why I always just offer and, of course, the offer could be refused - politely.:)

I've been lucky I guess - someone once helped me and told me everything they were going to do. IE, I'm going to take your left arm and we're going into a lift, etc.

people only help me if i ask for help, as i dont 'look' disabed .
ive always found people are willing to help but have had the odd occasion where people talk to me ever... so ... slowly...
as if the fact that i cant read what tthe label says means i also dont understand what the item is for ;)
i take it with the intention its meant with though...
someone is trying to help and i appreciate it even if they get it wrong

Years ago I had a wee Saturday job in Asda. Quite often I'd be asked to guide visually impaired customers round the shop because my department was quiet.

After a few weeks I started getting requests - turns out no one else thought to tell the customer what offers were on! I'd be going up the biscuit aisle giving it "oh it's 3 for 2 on some biscuits, want to know what ones" or in the bread aisle "it's bogof on Warburtons, the hovis is on price reduction or if you're using it tonight there's some rolls here with a yellow sticker". I'd also give relevant info like the hot chocolate package has changed, there's a new shampoo for brunettes, that packet has 5 Mars bars, used to have 6 etc.

Turns out no amount of diversity training can train in common sense!

Having read this thread l can't believe someone could be jealous of a motability car..

I am hoping to get one if l qualify.

Have had cancer in my foot, surgery removed most of the tissue and tendons to take out the tumour, followed by radiotherapy which burned my foot as if it had been in the fire.

I live with pain, swelling and balance problems...

Hey, if anyone is jealous....l will happily swap my leg for yours..

Im fine with those that genuinely need one, although i do know someone who is 'faking it' and has just been delivered a brand new one courtesy of tax payers...

I dont know how they get away with it.

How do you know (unless he was stupid enough to tell you) that it's a Motability car?

Because people who know they are faking it don't report them.

I have actually been told by the fraudster they are faking it... It is a Mobility car, checking DVLA proves it.
