Thanks everyone for all your posts - I have YNAB and use it - but I do need to spend some time forward planning better with it! I will have to sort it out over the weekend if I have 5 mins between Christmas fayres and carol services!
This week has been a bit of a blur and I have not been my organised self - I think being out last sat then hungover sunday followed by assignments and retirement parties has taken its toll!!! Had to have a wee rest tonight before making cupcakes and tablet for tomorrows school fayre!! We had takeaway tonight (with the leftover cash from the retiremment party underspend!) naughty I know - but I just couldn't face doing a food shop tonight and the fridge is just about empty!
Was a bit upset with DD2 who has been off today and has literally done nothing to help at home! At her age I had my own home and did everything myself and she thinks shes hard done to because I ask her to vacuum occasionally! She had put a wash in but its still there! so I guess if i am to wash any one elses stuff over the weekend I will have to sort it!
I need to deal with this as it is really getting me down!
In relation to gifts for staff working over Christmas - its difficult as a box of chocolates really doesn't mean much as we literally get hundreds of boxes of sweets, biscuits etc gifted (we are a charity and get lots of presents from shops, businesses and people who have experienced our services!) so I need to do something a little more personal! I will probably go in at somepoint and say hello and take something home made!0 -
Oh got a nice surprise from the Rev Mother - she knows I am struggling and has said she will buy the veg for christmas dinner from the local green grocer to save my trying to get to the supermarket when it is crazy busy! and she is giving me her £15 off a £75 spand at Al*i voucher! so that will help towards Christmas dinner!
Need to bottle the home made liquers this weekend! Ampersand do you want to visit? the blackberry brandy looks lovely! not tasted it yet though!0 -
Don't sort DD2's washing Judi. If she was living with someone who wasn't her mother it would be massively p*ssing off that other person....wonder how I know this?!!!
Put it in a box/bag/bucket to get it out of your way and then get on with your washing. It is incredibly selfish behaviour!Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

I know you are right Butti! Its so frustrating - she will have thrown in one or 2 bits of other peoples washing and make the excuse she is 'doing everyones washing' but I know the basket is over flowing which it wasn't this morning! so it must be her stuff in it! The problem at the moment is getting it dried without using the dryer! and if she leaves it lying in the machine it wastes the heat in the house when the heating is on! It drives me mad!!!0

Grrrrrrr kidults at home can be a nightmare - I feel like I run a small hotel at times. I think there is a difficult balance between getting them to take responsibility for helping out and turning in to a right old nag ! I have found sitting down talking to them when they are in the right frame of mind helps - they are not really unreasonable but young, busy and a little bit selfish. I left home very young because I didn't get on with my Mum (although to be fair she had a drink problem)and I would hate for mine to do the same. I want them to go when it is right for them to do so ...which I predict will be this year.
With regard to your gift dilemma you could make something like hot sausage rolls to offset all the sweet stuff they have.....I would suggest something made with spam...but that might damage your reputation as a boss!0 -

Spamage rolls!!! Not sure i would be able show my face in work again!!!
As for my DD2 - I would agree Busy me! I don't want to get to the point where I insist she moves out - but to be honest I am really struggling! She was really rude to me swearing at me this morning becuase I tool her washing (it was all hers!) out of the machine so I could make a start on kids and my uniforms etc - I left the washing in the hall so she had to step over it - which is exactly what she did! Asked her to hang it up on clothes rail but she refused and had a go at me about me not doing it! she eventually took it upstairs and dumped it on the floor in her room wet!!! and stormed out to work swearing at me! But I know she had been up for a while so she could have spent 5 mins sorting it before she left!
I also had a bit of a rant about her not helping at all either after work or on days off - she was so rude and direspectful! She is also making no moves at all to move out or be independent!!! I am so sad I feel like this - and I feel guilty too - but I do!!!
Anyway - school fayre been and gone seemed really busy so hopefully made a good profit! Now need to motivate myself to clean the house so I can get the tree up and also do some food shopping!!!0 -
Good. DD2 is obviously struggling with things not being quite so cushy. In her shoes I'd be mightily p*ssed off too.
