Thanks Beanilou - sometimes I just feel such a fool with money - I could be so much better off if I had made better financial decisions throughout my life however I guess am not alone in that! I do feel in a very different place this time - I met someone through my uni course that showed me the possibilities in using my skills in a different way than being tied to a management job that i hate ( i have moved jobs since then and love my job at the moment though!) this showed me that if i was in a better financial position (ie no debt and less mortgage) i would have a different set of choices about my career than I currently have.
Enthusiasticsaver - thanks for your words of encouragement. I have thought about an emergency fund as I know I am in a vulnerable positon and would have to turn to credit if a major expense came up. My plan after Jan (got and expensive wedding to go too - but it will be the first time we have been together as extended family for years so totally worth it!) is to put the CSA (should it actually materialise!) into a separate account to use as an emergency fund and kids expenses (it should be around £350 a month). I should still be able to pay down the debt at a rate of £1200 a month.0 -
Where did you find so much spam? I haven't seen it for years. But then I haven't been looking.......CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420

Haha Verbatim - it was a 'gift' from the reverand mother (My mum is a Vicar!) she helps at a communty cafe and had a substantial amount donated. There is only so much Spam a community cafe can serve apparantly and my mum knows I am trying to keep household costs down so thought I might appreciate it - I have to say the younger 2 kids absolutley love it! I gave them a choice of home made chicken curry (which they nomally love!) or Spam egg and home made wedges and they both chose the Spam! Go figure!0

It was probably the wedges that swung it, LOL!
How about something like a spam hash (like a corned beef hash but substitute the spam for the corned beef.
My DH loves spam fritters (slices of spam in batter & fried) but I can't stand them!
Just googled "Spam recipes" and Spam actually have their own website with snack ideas and main meal recipes! Might be worth a look.

The clue's in there somewhere!
Having said that I do have fond memories of 1970's spam fritters, along with butterscotch angel delight, and home made chicken curries with apple and sultanas in.Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

mmm I used to love Butterscotch Angel Delight!!! and funny you should mention curry with sultanas - the sainsbobs value curry sauce has sultanas in it and i used it a few weeks ago with some other curry sauce I had in to make a chicken curry - which I used the last of from the freezer tonght instead of Spam for me- Kids loved the Spam though - I was telling a patient at work about it and she thought it was really funny that my kids wanted it for tea! So Spam has been the focus of several conversations today!!! Random or what!!
Off to google Spam website!0 -
Ah I remember spam and butterscotch angel delight.
Do they still do it? Must look in my local supermarket soon. I do hope your CSA payments turn up soon and you enjoy the wedding. Always great to get together with family especially if you all over the place like my family is. Have a great day.

Not seen angel delight for years - but not really looked to be honest! Spam website was great - thinking about maccaroni cheese with spam or spam and leek pie next!!!
My first potential setback on my journey has happened tonight! My boiler sounds like it is about to die! It hissed and banged and went off while I was out this evening - eventually reset but doesn't sound very healthy!!! will have to have it looked at as aoon as possible - I can't cope without a shower!0
