Taking the deal has already entered you into a new minimum term so you have nothing to lose.

Not necessarily. I got a 50% deal back in July and it didn't tie me to a new minimum term.

The clue is in the words I highlight below

I got a deal yesterday -all my previous channels with a 50% discount for a year

Are you absolutely certain you haven't started a new minimum term, Jem16? Have you actually tried to cancel since last July?

All the deals are for a year. They wouldn't give an indefinite 50% off.

I am absolutely positive as I asked that specific question when I was offered the deal. There are also others on the main thread that have reported no minimum term tie-in.
Have you actually tried to cancel since last July?

I haven't had any need to cancel TV as I'm getting 50% off.

Just cancelled phone and BB though but that can be on a separate minimum term anyway.

So you don't actually know if you are in a new minimum term..

You may not care because you are getting a reduction for a year, but I think you'd struggle to cancel during this 12 months whatever you were apparently told when you were offered the deal.

As I have already said, I do know I am not in a minimum term as I asked that specific question and was told that taking the deal did not tie me in.

A simple email to the executive office asking them to check the call log would soon sort that out.
  • I sorted it over the phone. Told them I wasn't clicking anything or agreeing to a new min term. Said didn't trust these bizarre tactics. Anyway it came back on. Plus have just given notice to cancel and went through fine, no extended contract.

I wouldn't trust anything I was told verbally, especially on the telephone. Call logs can go "missing" and not every call appears to be recorded.

Regardless, you appear happy with your deal and won't be leaving any time soon, so you won't get to test it out.

To anyone else, I'd ask for it in writing that accepting a retention deal wasn't also accepting a new minimum term.

Yes, I was more irritated that I was forced to "activate" if I wanted to keep a channel which was supposedly already included in the cost of a Sky Sports subscription.

I agree the whole thing was suspicious and bizarre.

Nobody has answered my Q -Is the switch off of SS5 only happening on HD boxes ?

    I doubt it.

The random reports I've seen on the Sky Help forum and elsewhere don't indicate that only HD customers are affected. Certainly, the HD boxes are usually the first to receive new software updates, though.
