Not strictly moneysaving ...but has anyone else noticed that Sky are STILL showing the "activate SS5" message on the other sports channels ,even tho' everyone with the Sports pack has been able to watch it without taking any action since launch? Are they hoping that people are that stupid??:rotfl:

"Activating" the channel does nothing other than bring up a screen advertising Sky's "free broadband" offer. As you say, the channel has been available to all Sky Sports subscribers since launch and will continue to be.
"Activation" makes absolutely no difference.0 -
Pressing the backup button solves the problem. Simples!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

I don't think the onscreen graphic is the subject of this thread, the OP was concerned that Sky were still trying to convince people that they had to "activate" a channel they were already viewing.0 -

I'm annoyed that Sky insist that Sky Sports 5 be "activated" to view. Why should I have to do this for a channel that is already part of the Sky Sports subscription?
I deliberately chose not to "press red to activate" and on Saturday the channel disappeared completely!
I've activated it now (under duress), but it took around twelve hours for the channel to be viewable. What absolute nonsense!
If Sky does anything like this with future channel launches I will be cancelling my subscription.0 -

Sky are treating SS5 as a bonus channel just like SS4 (look at your bill and you will see they are itemised in addition to the SS pack.
Why they are doing this and insisting you activate it nobody knows for sure. It may be the case that they plan to charge for it separately in the future. What I think is more likely is they wanted to push the fact that it was a bonus channel and push home the "getting something brilliant for free" idea (ie. We are better than BT because you can get this for free).
I don't understand why people were so against activating it - sky have all your info anyway. All you were telling them was that you wanted the new channel.0 -
Was still available for me this am -and I haven't activated it.0

I think having to wait overnight for the channel to "activate" was another liberty.0 -

we'd received another letter a couple of weeks ago reminding us to activate, but when i went online i'm sure it said in the small print that this started another 12 month minimum term? as i'm planning on cancelling soon, thought best not to go ahead!0
