According to GBK's online menu, their cheapest burger is £6.75, a milkshake is £4.05, Skinny fries (regular) £2.95. So £24.55 in total by my calculations, if you were sharing your chips.

Anyway, the cheapest burger, fries and milkshake would be £13.75 per person. A slice of cheese appears to be another £1.20; fancier burgers are an extra £2 or £3. Then there's the tip. I can see how you could get to £20.

On the other hand, I expect that someone has rounded up a £15 bill to £20 for dramatic effect, in the same way as someone else has rounded down a bill of £25 to £20 for dramatic effect.

Ok, ok. I am guilty of rounding!! :D
Milkshake was 4.05. Burger was nine quid (it was a house special so I don't think will be on the online menu) regular skinny fries £2.75, bottle of Steinlager £4.75.
Total cost: £20.55. Apologies- I rounded down to £20 but for the sake of 55p didn't think it was worth stating it :D

The moral of the story is... if you want a hot meal for not much more than a supermarket sandwich meal deal, you can go to McDs.

There are better burgers, but not for c. £4 for burger, fries & a drink - unless your local cafe, or pub does a decent burger...

A bottle of Steinlager? You didn't mention that first time around! It was just " twenty quid for burger, fries and a milkshake". If you'd have said there was a lager involved I'd have known how you'd got to £20. :)

I forgot about it :o I just remembered when I said me and mate only go there for the Steinlager :D they have an off-premises licence so my mate buys bottles of it for the Kiwi bloke she fancies :D the manager of the GBK we go to is lovely. We had a good chat last time we went and she was telling us about her Masters in philosophy. I've done philosophy as part of my OU module so we had an interesting chat although my mate was bored stiff :D see you get a better class of conversation as well as a better class of burger at GBK :D last time I was in Maccy D's I had to tell them three times that I wanted mayo on my Chicken Legend..!!

I think it's because the average GB Mac Donalds customer is not prepared to wait for anything better.

The French don't seem to mind waiting 20 minutes and therefore have a more exciting menu.

They have a chain there called Quick Burger thinking we would try something new and it was anything but Quick.

"Speed", "consistency", and the desire to "gear everything to getting exactly the same result every time" are pretty standard objectives in the restaurant business. I can assure that the likes of Blumenthal's Fat Duck don't tolerate much in the way of variability either. That snail porridge is going to produced exactly right every time, and be available exactly when you need it.

At the prices they charge there are in a much better position to achieve consistency and availability (but if you really believe you can get a portion of snail vomit at the fat duck as quickly as you can get a big mac at mcdonalds then, well, good luck with that.

Burger King have introduced a new meal price point of £3.79 (undercutting most McDs)... for 3 options.

The choices include the new "Big King" that looks very much like a Big Mac.

I had a big king the other day. Absolutely awful. Nowhere near as good as a Big Mac.
