that is right..
for Amazon to come up with something really appealing in terms of points/cashback i reckon it would have to be an Amex and/or a fee paying card.. and if that is the case, i reckon just going for an Amex Amex is the way to go.
there are very few non-Amex options out there, and i have bagged the only option that makes cashback sense for me: Amex Cashback now back with CapOne Elite. nothing else in the game...but you do have to spend enough to cover the £120/yr fee and then get well into the black.
£120 pa is a lot to spend for this, surely:
5% cashback on all purchases for 99 days from account opening up to a maximum total cashback of £200.
After this period you will earn 1% cashback for all subsequent purchases up to an aggregate of £15,000, increasing to 2% for aggregate purchases from £15,000 up to £50,000 and then 1.35% cashback for annual spend of £50,000 and above.0 -
that's right Doc. i hit cards pretty hard, so decided it was worth paying the fee, but realise this won't be for everyone. and other than this card, there is little beyond Amex on the market.0

Just checking on uswitch, RBS and Natwest have launched new cards.
Cant post links but the Natwest credit card page shows theirs is called "Cashback Plus Credit Card"
1% on ALL supermarket shopping (excluding petrol forecourts)
At least 1% on ALL shopping at Cashback Plus retailers
1% on ALL contactless transactions until 31st March 2015
0.5% on ALL other purchases at home and abroad
No balance transfer fees - just one £24 annual fee0 -
The number of points c/f continued to be shown on all statements up to September, AFAIK.
My most recent statement was dated 3/10/2014 and the points earned and total doesn't appear on it. That was why I contacted MBNA to find how many I finished up with, but they couldn't tell me.0 -

yes, with the rarity of decent cashback cards, these look alright..

but, ref. Doc, £96 more annual fee for the CapOne card, and I have already covered £80 beyond the fee...restrained by the 99d£200max now:(...but that £35k to go at, earning 2%, is quite appealing:drool:0 -

Giving up on getting anything more than 0.5% for all purchases on a non-Amex card, the Aqua Reward card has some advantages:
- no fees on spend abroad (like the Clarity, although the cash withdrawal fee still applies).
- easy to get with a non perfect credit history.
Disadvantages:
- low credit limit.
Anyone knows if the Aqua card is contactless?0 -

Minor point, but they also round the cashback down to the nearest fiver at the end of the year.
Mine is not contactless.0 -
I got the impression that, like me, you had ceased using your Amazon card by the September statement. My balance was shown there and there were no further transactions on my October statement, so nothing was shown. I assume (in my case anyway) that my Sept balance of around 700 points will eventually materialise in the form of a voucher.
My statement is due on the 3rd of the month. I didn't use my card after the 30th, but all the transactions up to and including the 30th wold be on that statement (dated 3rd Oct), so as far as I'm concerned it should have shown the points accrued just as normal, but didn't.0 -
Had an interesting conversation with Amex yesterday about accrued cashback points on one of their cards. Used to be convertible into Amazon giftcards (20,000 points for £100) - but apparently, sadly, no longer.
However, they are apparently shortly introducing the US amazon.com style system for paying Amazon with Amex points instead of cash. Seems to be worked in the US at 1 point for $0.70 but as yet no more information on how it will work in the UK.
Is this a clue to who's going to operate the new Amazon Card? Possibly, but probably not. Chase operate the Amazon (Visa) card in the US with a generous 3% cashback on Amazon purchases, 2% in filling stations, drugstores, office supply stores and restaurants, and 1% elsewhere.
Speculation, and more speculation.........I do wish Amazon would end it with a name!0
