I've checked my online balance today. All Amazon points have disappeared. (850) I called them (to cancel a different card - 0% paid off :) ) and they said that I would get a voucher for £8.50 on the Amazon card. There is no mention on the site that I am on a new points scheme. I did ask them to confirm and they just said the letter I received would confirm if I was on the points or non points card.

Just need to sort out a replacement card now :)

First time for years I haven't had a cashback card since the old Egg days (about 20 years ago!).

    Thanks for that MBNA!

MBNA has updated their "Amazon mastercard is changing" page, and it looks like everyone is getting an MBNA rewards card now:-

Everyone are NOT been sent this reward card. We pay our balance in full every month by DD but were not offered one even though I had contacted them last month to request one. Seems the whole family have each to 'apply' with a new application. No one at MBNA would tell me what the points are worth when I phoned today and it is only when I escalated my request was told it was .5%.! I therefore will not use the standard card or apply for a rewards card as I will not jump through hoops for a paltry .5%! not to mention wasting 15 mins on the phone for each application (which is what they told me). Very annoyed with MBNA for making this so difficult for 'some' of us! :(

MBNA are coming out of this very badly.

Some customers get the Rewards Card and some don't, and if you complain about that you're told that you can get the Rewards Card after all - but only if you make a separate application for one.

As Daveee says, it just isn't worth the hassle for a measly 0.5%.

A good opportunity, though, to move away altogether from any MBNA-run card and switch to a company that has a little more respect for its customers.

And it can't be long now before Amazon announce the name of their new banking partner, with the inevitable heavy promotion for the new Amazon Card. So long, MBNA. :rotfl:

Any card who changes their cashback rewards scheme comes out of it badly. The Barclaycard (ex-egg) as another example. Ive lost track of the number of cashback cards who have tried to transfer my "loyalty" to some other crappy scheme.

Yes, that was cleared up by the person who posted immediately after me. Sorry I made a mistake. I didn't know there were 2 pages set up by MBNA. I went back to the last 'mymbna' link posted on this thread, believing it was the only one, then got excited about seeing an extra bit about automatically getting a rewards card, because it wasn't there before on the page I'd read previously. To me, at the time, it looked like MBNA had caved in to pressure. Mea Culpa.

FWIW, I've not been offered the rewards card either. I'm another who pays their balance off in full every month (have done so ever since I was old enough to have a credit card).

But, I need a credit card, and I don't want to risk a decline, so will be hanging on to the basic MBNA card until Amazon comes up with something new (and non-Amex). I'll give them until the New Year, at which point I'll risk applying elsewhere (prob M&S).

I have cancelled my MBNA cards and removed them from Amazon. Now considering the American Express Everyday Platinum cash back charge card with 5% cashback on up to £2,000 of purchases in your first 3 months of Card membership (great for Christmas spending)! Then 1.25% there after! I do notice it is not a Mastercard, could that be a problem??

    Hi All,

The new "Amazon" sponsered card has been announced (sort off)...

    amazon [dot]co[dot] ie=UTF8&ad=amex_gold_ad_VC&inc=amexgolda13&place=vc&plattr=amex_gold_plattr_VC&pr=amexgold

(not sure if above will work, but if not, just go to amazon, add something to your basket and go to checkout and it'll appear at the top)

The American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card which gives:

New Cardmember welcome bonus of 20,000 Membership Rewards points, when you spend £2,000 on your Card in your first three months, enough for a £100 Gift Certificate to spend next time you shop at Amazon.co.uk.

The Preferred Rewards Gold Card comes with the added peace of mind and service that you expect from American Express. It usually has an annual fee of £125, but with this invitation your first year is fee free.

    Plus...
    • Earn 2 points for every £1 on all your spend made while abroad
    • Earn 2 points for every £1 spent on petrol and major supermarket purchases for one year
    • Get two complimentary airport VIP lounge passes every year
    • Travel and purchase protection included with your Card
    • Gain access to some of the hottest tickets and tables in town with American Express Invites
Which in short - is useless. The Everyday Platinum outstrips the advantage of this (spend £2000 and you get £100 which you can use for Amazon vouchers) and better yet you can use anywhere, from the above, doesn't seem like you can use everywhere (at least not after the first year).

It's only a problem if you don't carry a backup Mastercard/Visa card. Amex isn't accepted everywhere - quite a few places don't take it in fact. But it's accepted at enough places (including Amazon and PayPal) to make it well worth the £25pa.

The customer service is also infinitely better than most other card companies - and certainly MBNA's.

As I understand it there is no annual charge on the Everyday card??
