If you'd like to close your credit card account please call our Customer Services team using the number on the back of your card. If your account has been dormant for more than 30 days then you can close it by using our IVR.0 -

Surely it's better to phone up to see if they offer you anything to keep you there (i.e. offer the rewards cards if I cancel my non-reward card), or give a certain amount rebate...
... At least I'm hoping based on all those on the Barclay Card thread...0 -

They're obviously not interested in retention, which is why they're dumping lots (most?) of us onto a non-reward card. A confusing way for a company to do business but there we are.
Whatever MBNA or Amazon go on to offer it's likely to be too little too late, as a lot of people will already have switched. I'm already enjoying my 5% cashback from Amex0 -
Also looking at my options, I'm minded to hang on and see if Amazon announce anew deal elsewhere before applying ofr toehr cards.
I'll start using my John Lewis card for now as that accumulates points at an okay rate.
My the other options were the Tesco card, but the Lloyds one mentioned above looks interesting as I found the Amazon vouchers really useful.
One question I have around any new card is how they generate statement and payment dates, the big annoyance for me with the MBNA Amazon card was the variation in dates statements are generated.
Instead of being able to select a date that the statement would be produced, their approach was that it would happen between a range of dates, this made it a bit of a pain, especially at the end of the month when you might want to make a big purchase, but didn't want to have to clear that whole payment immediately because it hit the statement.
With the John Lewis card, I elected to have the statement produced on the 26th of each month and it would happen without fail, with the Amazon card it happened between the 26th and 28th, so made budgeting difficult in the last few days of the month.
Anyway, my question is, are the statement generation dates fixed with Lloyds and Tesco, or do they vary as the Amazon card ones do?0 -
I think its time to hang around until Amazon come up with their new card.
I rang MBNA today (29/9) because they had just issued me with a NEW !!!! Amazon card valid until 2017. I wanted to know if the MBNA replacement for my Amazon card had rewards. They replied - 2 points on all transactions for the first 3 months, and 1 point thereafter. I point = 1 penny. But the bad news is that these are given as ARGOS VOUCHERS ! He didn't mention any alternatives.
I've just joined Santander 123 card, but if its not supermarket spending, department store spending, or petrol/travel spending you get nothing. So I was looking around for a replacement for Amazon card for all my other spending. I think there is no rush. Like you I'm going to hang around to see what Amazon come up with. I do most of my shopping with them. I think Santander should seize the initiative by offering half a percent on all other spending.0 -
If its 1% ongoing on a Visa/MC, that's a pretty good deal, even if it is Argos vouchers......they sell pretty much everything.illegitimi non carborundum0

I think I will make a small test purchase on Wednesday to see what (if any) points I get.0
