Self promotion is NOT the same as spam

If you see a comp posted which you 'believe' is self promotion please use the report button to ask the forum team to take a look

One person posting on the thread to question wether the OP might be self promoting should be enough to alert other compers

What if it is genuine and obvious self promotion Glad, rather than 'I suspect this is spam'? Shouldn't it be removed sooner rather than later, and thus a number members hitting 'spam' will remove it. Otherwise, the thread can lurk around for ages and in some cases an entire weekend (as the MSE Mods do take time off and don't monitor the site 24/7) meaning the work of the self promoter is achieved?

Exactly. Why is that still here 14 hours later? Surely that is better spammed than remaining live when it's 100% clear it's self promotion.

Let's just comp & not get too involved in the "back of house" stuff,especially online shouting about miscreants.

Report to MSE admin & move on is my view.

I agree that spam & self promotion are not the same & we should not use a function of this forum for what is not intended for.

Clearly they are really busy and haven't got to this one yet. MSE doesn't allow self promotion, not that that stops merchants self promoting so surely the members should assist when merchants abuse MSE this way.

Self promotion is NOT the same as spam

The two are not mutually exclusive and self-promotion can be spam as well if it meets the spam criteria.

I'm sticking to my first opinion,ie just report & move on.

We all can see spam as spam & self promotion as another thing so just play it as we see it.

I'm sure that MSE admin will soon get in touch if any of us play silly with the definitions :-)

There is something I would like clarificationa about. If somebody posts some competitions on here and then somebody else realises that they have been self-promoting and their posts are removed. If I then see some more competitions on that person's site, am I allowed to post them here, or is that effectively endorsing the self-promotion?
