  • Hi everyone

Been extra strict with myself over the weekend and have only spent £7.00 since I last posted. Now standing at £65.50 to last until the 25th. If i carry on the way I have been over the last few days I might just make it.

Still hoping to have some left to put towards a costco membership. Might be wishful thinking but a girls gotta aim for something. Meal plan completed up until the 21st and nothing major should be needed.

  • Well spent £55.34 at Asda click and collect. Two of the apples were bruised so called the freephone number and got an easy refund. The lady was amazed you could get pink apples. One of the interesting positives of international call centres. So I'm at £53.84/£250.

Can someone advise about beef mince. I have some steak mince in the freezer which was part of a large pack from Costco which I split. I have no idea of the fat content because I split it into 5 portions weeks ago. How do I remove the fat? Is it just a case of dry frying and getting rid of the liquid? I don't want to be wasting what I already have in. TIA.
I know I'm late replying to this, but I've only just found some time to catch up with the thread (from the start!)

I'd be VERY surprised if you managed to strain ANY fat out of Costc0 mince (and I'm pretty sure I've never seen fat content listed on their labels anyway). OH and I have discovered that in order to stop it sticking to a pan we either have to add oil or a chopped raw onion. He was an avid fat strainer (used to use Mr T's organic mince), so if there were any I'd know about it :D

Another no spend day today :D but only on the GC side of the budget as have spent a few ££'s on some tops that are desperately needed. Havent brought clothes for ages so well justified and a whole two sizes less :j (Must keep it off now)

We had hm onion soup and cheese on toast for tea. Really nice but has made me so thirsty so am drinking loads of water.

Have taken some stewing steak out of the freezer so this will go in the slow cooker tomorrow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COXY and well done on the job offer.

  • Hello!

We'll completed this weeks big shop at one of the big four and I was pleasantly surprised that I came in at £63.56 which included a large pack of loo roll (£8) and some scrumpy jack (£3.50) for DH! I also bought two big packs of mince meat to do some batch cooking this week. Will have to have a hunt around for more supplies as the sm didn't have any princes stewing stake so will have to find some! But overall a result!

  • Current average spend stands at £136.01 per week.

I also do my own little one between paydays, so have a total of £600 for the 4 weeks and anything left over from that goes onto one of the CCs on payday. Currently have £49.74 left for this week and DH has yet to get diesel and main shop not yet done either, eek!

£3.09 added to my sig, needed soya milk (40p off voucher) and got some other bits and pieces from the YS selection, watercress, bread, crumpets. Then 2 x basics mozzarella. Am pleased.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • NSD on groceries since Friday. Doing well. Will need to pop out for milk tomorrow but the budget is looking good.

On that note, I am going to try and incorporate my fiance's packed lunches into next week's budget. I am looking for some low cost lunch ideas. He is a plain eater - doesn't do pulses. More of a cheese sandwich kind of guy. If you have any suggestions, they will be gratefully received.

  • Daughter picked up apples and bananas for £2.07 today whilst waiting for her bus from college. She chose the worst bag of golden delicious ever. I will have to pick out the worst and use for fruit leather, as I have had a baking day already today so don't need to bake anything else.
