Thanks all. Just to close off the thread, this is what I've gone ahead and booked

(Signature, Tower 1, Junior Penthouse Suite)
I did give Cosmopolitan serious consideration but the price of the signature suite ($300 incl all taxes/fees etc) made it too good to resist. It also has the height and views of both the strip and the valley that I'm looking for.
Set a bit away from the strip but apparently only 10 mins to the strip using the walkway and I'm happy with that.
Appreciate all the responses

10 mins using the walkway will take you to the back of the MGM Grand and another 10 mins will take you to the front of it and the strip.
You would be better going in the opposite direction as a 10 min walk along Harmon will take you to the strip.0 -
I'm coming late to the party, but I just got back from 7 nights in The Cosmo and it was amazing. I had reservations because of the reviews about bad housekeeping / rude staff, but we could not have asked for more. The room was left immaculate every day, and every staff member we spoke with could not have been nicer.
When I made the booking I emailed the hotel and asked if I could make a request for a high floor. This note was added to my booking. When I checked in (some 14 months later!) I was asked if I still wanted a high floor or if I would prefer middle or lower.
This was our view from a 1-bed Terrace Suite on the 54th floor. The mountains were visible off to the left and straight ahead.
I really like the look of the suites at The Signature but the distance from the Strip has put me off in the past, so I'd be interested to hear how you find it.
