Thanks all for the useful suggestions. Looks like the Cosmo Terrace studio/suites are coming out on top. Through airbnb I can book a guaranteed 22nd floor room with a fountain view. Think this would be quite low down though?

For the record, I want a nice stip view for the missus as it's her first time in Vegas but I'm not a strip person and would much prefer a high floor room so that I can get good views of the whole valley and mountains. I know it's not asking much! ;)

I have found this place in Trump which looks to have the type of strip/valley views I'd be after...maybe just a bit too far out though for a 2 day trip..

this is floor 23 for reference...it's also a suite, so not what you are looking at at airbnb but for view reference about 7:20..my video was from the other tower - the one next to the Bellagio sign toward the end of this video.

Trump is a bit of a hike. I'd agree not for a two day trip.
If you want dual aspect views the wraparound terraces at the Cosmo might work. There's videos on YouTube.

Also, I don't know how prices at airbnb compare to booking direct (I assume they are less expensive) but obviously through airbnb you would be booking X room...at the hotel at least you would have the option of requesting a high floor and maybe getting it.

I understand that you are uncomfortable with the uncertainty so maybe the Mirage suites mentioned above would be an option for you to consider but the hotel towers are not as tall as others in Vegas.

I've contacted Cosmopolitan and have been told that not all Terrace rooms have a fountain view, is this correct. Apparently I must book a Terrace suite to guarantee a fountain view?

Crazy how I can't specifically guarantee a high floor/strip view room if they have the type of room I want to book with those criteria, especially as I'm willing to pay a bit extra to guarantee this. A missed opportunity for hotels?

MGM were selling rooms with a view for a while, but I didn't notice it last time I was pricing rooms.

I'm getting even more confused as to what type of room you after now that you are mentioning a fountain view. Is it a fountain view, mountain view or any view from a high floor?

bairn7, I agree, it does seem crazy that the hotels don't make those options available.

FWIW if you can't get the room you want, how about these ideas?

    Thanks all

Wammer I had clarified this in a previous post. I would like to get some kind of strip view for the missus with a view over the valley for me (hence the high floor). I mentioned fountain view as this is by its nature a strip view (i.e. if not a view of the fountain then there's the possibility of a view facing away from the strip - which is not what I am after).

I think it's been mentioned before in this thread...Terrace Suite all have Bellagio fountain views...Terrace Studio you can pay additional book a fountain view room...I cannot remember on Terrace One Bedrooms...we once had a front-on view of PH that was nice but we were in the middle of the tower and we could see a bit both directions but not as good of a view as our last Terrace One Bedroom which was pretty much the same as the Terrace Suite view in our video.

The hotels do give you the chance to book a room with a fountain view...it's just you want high floor AND view (and ideally both Strip and mountain view ;))...with thousands of rooms chances are they will have what you want but it would be problematic for them to start guaranteeing every single preference...instead they will only guarantee limited things which gives more flexibility and less chance of having an irate guest who was expecting X room type, 2 queen beds, view, high floor, non-smoking (all the rooms are non-smoking I just use this for example purposes),etc. all guaranteed.

You are staying mid-week so even more chance you will be able to request your preference and get it (or pay to upgrade to get it).

We stayed in a Cosmo terrace, towards the top and could see the mountains to the left, the fountains in front and the downtown hotels i n the distance. Sorry but can't remember exactly what the room was called or what floor.

Fairly sure you could get the same view if you booked a terrace fountain view and if you were allocated a room to low, get your wallet out and see what transpires
