Hi. Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed this diary- I've only just started so haven't read the first one but the second one is entertaining without having to read the first one for info - IFYSWIM. Anyhoo we all just want you to be happy (and Steve too obviously) it just reads strangely about the priorities but as long as you are happy at the end of the day that's all that matters.

IA I loved seeing all your party photos, it looks like you had a great time! I can so empathise with the buying stuff for people that you love - your family. I do it all the time the most extravagant is DS1's trip to South America which we gave him £1800 towards (he raised £1400), he's due home tonight and we leave for the airport in 2 hours. I can't wait to see him and hear about it, he's emailed once to tell us that he was having an amazing time and that was all I needed to hear. If he's happy then I (and OH) is too.

I'm so jealous with all this talk of "outside". I've been stuck in an office all day and hoped to spend some time in the garden when I got home but nasty neighbour has mowed their lawn, so my hayfever is playing up now. Maybe I should just have a vodka and coke (with a slice of lemon) and pretend I'm outside!

IA - hope you got to have some time in the garden - maybe a picnic tea when Steve gets home?

  • Well I am going to totally ignore all controversial thoughts on Ste's PS3 and just ask you and him what is the best console to get if you are only getting one? DH loves gaming but has always stuck with the PC games and played consoles at mates' houses or when away working (works away a month at a time so they have loads of gear on the boat). HE has made grumbles in the past which I have ignored but now I am starting to think it might be fun. We always like playing GTA games so the PS3 would be my instinctive choice and of course the Blueray is tempting BUT the Wii just looks so much damn fun although I believe the games available are a bit limited. Discuss.

Poodlehorse, I'm not sure if the Wii is a bit gimmicky - something you would play a few times, drunk, with friends, for a laugh, but then you'd get a bit bored of it? I think I would rather have a ps3.

Someone (I forget who, sorry, it might have been Pap??) was saying they are likely to come down in price a LOT towards Xmas though, so it might be worth hanging on a bit?

Thanks for that, I broached the subject with DH and he think the PS3 too but is balking at the price a bit so we might have to wait (we are building an extension cureently so I think we have banned ourselves from more outlay until we now how much it is all costing.) I think I have been seduced by the marketing of the Wii but I have heard a few people say it was fun to start with but then lost interest. I just feel that if I go with A all of a sudden it will be apparent that B was the best choice cos that always happens to me.

How about an xbox 360 or is it just between the PS3 & Wii?

Ours is great and MB plays on it all the time, including online which keeps him out of my hair ;)

With regards to the "going out" situation - if you're looking at childminding then you really do need to get Ash trained into using the reins or walking as soon as possible - I know she might kick off and have a major paddy at first but like all things - the more you do them and don't give in - the quicker she will learn - it's not as if you're being cruel, just teaching her life lessons. Give her lots of praise, maybe even let her choose some reins or a wrist strap herself and tell her what a big girls she's being by walking, use bribary too if she's kicking off, tell her that if she walks to the end of the road, lampost, red car etc then she can have 5 mins in the buggy, you'll be surprised how quickly she'll build up her stamina.

When I was a childminder it was so important to get out and about, even for a walk to the end of the road and back, it's not just the exercise but it's showing adult control, road safety and how to interact with your surroundings - walking to the end of the road with 3 under 5's used to take nearly an hour as we'd have to stop and look at every flower, leaf, ant, bit of old chewinggum, blade of grass, stone etc etc.

Once you're approved and up and working you may find that you need Ash's place in the buggy for another little one, if she's used to walking alongside you now it will be easier in the long run. Most childrens parents would expect the childminder to take their children out, be it to the park, library, play groups etc, I think it's something you need to tackle now so that you're ready to face it head on later.

Hope that's not caused any offence.

Poodle, we havent got a PS3, and I'm not even sure what Blue Ray is

We have most of the other consoles though, Wii, PS2, Xbox 360, Game Cube etc :o

The only one we've ever played as a family is the Wii. It really is great fun. We're all off school/work at the moment, so looking forward to playing on it later - it can be good exersize by the way, some of the games make your muscles ache.
