This week is not going well financially.
DH booked his car in for pre holiday health check (as we are driving to Austria in it next week) - that cost £800
Took dog to vets this morning as she was still out of sorts - turns out she had ripped her dew (correct spelling??) claw right at the base so needed sedation to have it removed and anti-biotics etc as it was infected - that was £200.
So thats £1000 out of the blue we've had to spend.
Deep, deep joy
Looking forward to next month's credit card bill......0 -
Oh my word Pushkin, what a week! Your poor dog, and how stressful for you just before going away. £800 car bills make my stomach churn just thinking about them!
Still, better to pay £800 now than break down on the way to holiday and it be ruined.
Hope nothing else goes wrong for you!Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%
Overpayments - £48829.37 :j:j:j
Mortgage paid off Jan 20200 -
Hope the doggy is doing better now
and that the rest of your week has been less stressful! 0 -
Hi Amy & Bookworm - thanks for the comments . Nice to 'see' you - yes dog is fine again now, she has had that many injuries she is very adept at taking tablets and now sits begging for them as she knows they come with ham

Money wise things have calmed down but I am a bit of wreck today. Was fine yesterday morning but walked the dog with shoes & no socks which has rubbed the skin off one heel. I also have about 5 gnat bits driving me mad, then tripped up on the patio while watering the plants last night and am so stiff and sore today it's as struggle to stay active. Really annoyed as boys are at the Farnborough airshow and I had a long list of chores I wanted to plough through but its all very slow going.
Am about to hobble off to the shops for holiday toiletries then meeting my mum at 2 for lunch.
One good thing that has happened today (although i feel very guilty about it) I found a £10 note while out with the dog. There was nobody around and I ummed and ahed for ages before finally pocketing it. Half expected some loud reality tv host to jump out at me and mock me for stealing money - as I say I do still feel quite guilty. :cool:0 -
If you were really feeling guilty and wanted to be virtuous - you could 'pay it forward' by giving it (or part of it) to charity
I wouldn't feel guilty about finding money. As the saying goes finders keepers

Ooh I am just so so so hot, big disadvantage to working from home unlike DH who is in a lovely office with air conditioning. Did even contemplate driving round for a bit just to blast the ac in the car. Have finished work and just flopping on the sofa - ok not hugely different to normal but just so lethargic.
I would put the hose on and sit in the garden by it but DS has friends over in the den and it would scar teenage boys for life seeing me in a wet tshirt
Have just given the dog a lolly ice (cut up of course) - bit mad but always think dogs must be so hot in this heat.
Oh no money news although last day of the school year so did give DS £5 to spend in town (well Gr3ggs!) as they finished early.0 -
Not mad feeding the dog a lolly....we always do that to ours or let them have some ice cream too. They love it but even more so when the weather is hot :cool:0

Bookworm - thanks for the validation re lolly ice - today the dog has enjoyed a mango one although I think she preferred yesterday's tropical fruit

Tired today, didn't bother going to bed until late as it was so darn hot so I wanted to be really tired. Kind of worked although I still think the heat causes a lot of restlessness. Walked the dog earlier than normal this morning and and lunchtime to avoid the heat. It has def ramped up as the afternoon has gone on.
Just waiting for DH to get home and we will crack open the beer and sit in the garden - off on holiday Friday and it sure feels good to have just over 2 weeks off work. :j
Haven't done any packing yet  Hopefully will be a bit cooler tomorrow as we need to be productive!0 -
Back from holiday late Sunday night and didn't feel at all well yesterday - prob a combination of the 2 day drive and eating out of motorway services while doing so - still not yet solved the healthy eating while travelling conundrum.
Good holiday - came back with only 40 Euros and also put a few bits on the credit card. Splurged and bought a lovely cabin sized suitcase as we ended up having to borrow overnight bags for the trip. Also had a disaster with the hotel booked for the last night which turned out to be horrible so ended up cancelling and driving else where. I think we will still have to pay 25% of the original hotel cost which I'm not overly happy about but the hotel we ended up was fab and I had the best nights sleep of the holiday so it's lovely to end the trip on a high.
I am now left with the washing mountain - can't hang it out as it's raining
Am off work all this week - just love pottering locally - off to the new Ikea in Reading today :j0 -
Ikea was so busy on Tuesday, we went to the new one that recently opened in Reading and I wonder if its the surge of people going to see a new shop. Bought a few bits - quite a few on impulse and finally got a new light for the kitchen.
Today I'm meeting mum and doing a bit of shopping - well hopefully browsing. We were due to go down and see friends on Saturday but due to to some issues they are now coming here instead so I will probably have to buy some food - I think we'll do a bbq.
Really need to do some housework which doesn't seem to have featured too much in my week off so far!
