:T well done to your DS :rotfl:

He'll soon work out he can make more money elsewhere. ;) Convince him to start his own business - my brother used to sell penny sweets for 10p a pop on the bus home from school. Never too early to test out those entrepreneurial skills ;)

Perla*Merle - I think DS learned yesterday that the bank of granny and granddad is a much easier way to make money than through me and DH. My mother 'paid' him £5 for picking up some sticks that had fallen on her lawn - virtually a pound a stick! He has enough money for his computer game now so is no longer asking for jobs for money - will see if that habit comes back to him!

Too hot to feel very productive today, DH has popped to Ikea but just phoned having left the house 40 mins ago to say he has gone about 5 miles and is stuck in the mother of all traffic jams. I hate living in the south east sometimes. Lawd knows what time he'll get home.

Payday tomorrow -just did a sweep of the residue cash in my current account to 3 accounts - a savings for house jobs, slush fund and long term savings

DH is searching for his next car so savings due to take a big hit v soon. I've persuaded him to wait until September as I'm hoping 2nd hand prices may drop when the new reg comes out.

Having problems with our house phones - lots of crackling on calls and it's embarrassing as I work at home and so do a lot of conference calls.

Also need to start getting quotes for getting the kitchen retiled and painted - finish it off finally!

Feels like money money money at the moment!

Pay day yesterday but am always a little in no mans land until the 1st of the month when the bills go out.

Have had what feels like yet another dead beat week at work - am being a very poor role model to DS during the school holidays with work being so quiet.

Still 3 day weekend upcoming :j Trip to Costco tomorrow - parents over for bbq Sunday and Monday shopping for new school uniform bits ().

Bought new home phones in C0stc0 - the previous ones were quite new (about a year old) but had been very unsatisfactory so although a spend of just under £100 I am glad we got them.

Also bought a bistro table & 2 chairs from B&Q in the clearance sale - current set about 4 years old and very tatty. Also got another couple of plants - bit addicted to buying them at the moment.

BBQ with parents today at our house - sister came down with her boyfriend who we met for the first time. Weather was a bit dodgy but all went well and we managed to stay dry.

Also cleaned the downstairs of the house this morning - very productive - just wish the upstairs was half as tidy!

As soon as I tidy one area of the house, another gets ruined! Today I threatened DD with the bin bag of doom if she didn't tidy her toys. She had lost 4 Nintendo DS games! 4!!!! Managed to find 2 so far.

Hi Amycool - glad its not just me!!! I used to dream of having a huge house but these days I just think of all the extra cleaning and somehow it isn't quite so appealing ;)

DH has driven me mad today. He is looking to buy a new car (well 2nd hand new) and today couldn't find his car insurance policy or any record of payment or who he was insured with :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Annoyingly I hadn't updated that row on my house admin spreadsheet so didn't have it recorded. I was really worried he wasn't insured - DH took the view that he must be insured because he hadn't been pulled over by the police in the last year -hmmmm

Fortunately he finally found an email with his insurance policy on so alls well that ends well. Bit of a kick up the butt for me to put more effort into keeping my admin sheet up to date.

We've done that before. We only got an email as confirmation, which wouldn't print, but a year later I was sick with worry!

I'm very much a fan of a small house. If things don't fit, have fewer things. :) Cleaning a 3 bed semi is more than enough for me!

Really really kicking myself. Noticed a £9.99 charge on my credit card bill to 1TUn£s that I remember spending, did a LOT of investigation only to discover DS's account is attached to my credit card and he had (inadvertently) subscribed to @ppl£ Music 7 months ago

I trawled back through all my cc statements and this charge is on all of them - total of £70. What's annoying me more than the financial loss if that I obviously don't have the spandex tight control over my cc that I thought I did. My only defence is I have bought some albums myself over the past few months and because my cc has been within a reasonable threshold of what I thought the total was I didn't notice. New rule then is to calculate cc bill accurately - I normally round up on my xls so I ensure I have enough money for it and don't get any nasty surprises

I do actually believe DS when he says he didn't realise he had subscribed to this - I would have thought @ppl£ would email the cc account holder though when something was purchased - maybe they do and I didn't notice that either!

So all in all I need to tighten up on my financial record keeping.

Have just closed the curtains - first time for a couple of months, feels very autumnal this evening.

DH bought a car yesterday  Did well though and got £600 knocked off, I think because it was 1st September when the new plate comes out - was worth holding off til then. He will be picking it week Saturday. Will be devastated withdrawing the cash, sometimes I do have to remind myself that saving up for something does ultimately mean spending money. :D

I do have another confession though - we went in the ballot for tickets for next years World Athletics Championships which are being held in London. Having been inspired by the Olympics and having failed to get any tickets in 2012 thought we'd give it a go and DH talked me into going for the best tickets. Anyway we have got the tickets! My first thought was excitement closely followed by horror at how much we are spending on tickets to see sport.

Seriously will be doing some economising this autumn!
