I tend to find that if you want someone to do something to sort out an obvious problem that's affecting lots of people, it's always worth thinking about whether you could be that someone.

Having read this thread I think a lot of you are being unfair to catkins.
She has the right to not have people sticking their noses in her business.
It's like a lot of people on here either don't have neighbours or get on with theirs tremendously well.
This isn't the case anymore. We live in a society where people don't know their neighbours well (not saying this is a good thing) and maybe this is why the neighbours are being nosy? I'm not condoning it in any way as I think it is ridiculous but you have to cut catkins and her other neighbours that are suffering some slack.
When I was growing up one of the neighbours was a window lurker because her son was a pain in the backside and nobody wanted to play with him so she responded by spying on us. My mum didn't really like this but couldn't be bothered to start a war about it - she just gave this woman knowing looks whenever she caught her spying. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

Karma is a biatch
One day some of these arrogant posters will be wishing some "nosy old bat" was noticing when they have a problem or are simply there to talk to.
Frankly I'd rather have neighbours who were friendly than completely self absorbed personally.
As for a sixty year old referring to the elderly. When you are twenty fifty is elderly, when you are fifty your perspective has changed somewhat.Wow, I have known some intolerant people, but some people on here (including the OP) are massively intolerant. Certainly some of the posts on this thread are very rude and scathing. (There several rude ones on the first page.) Many of these people who you call 'nosey' and 'old bags,' are possibly very lonely and looking for someone to chat to.
I have about 5 elderly couples near me, and I love to have a chat with them. When they see me, they always ask about me and how my day was, and how my husband is etc. They look after our cats when we're away, they look after the house, and they give us milk and bread if we run out, and come around for coffee now and again. It's called being a community. Maybe you should try it.
What awful, grumpy, miserable attitudes from a few people on this thread. Frankly, I would much rather have the 'nosey old bag' of a neighbour for a neighbour, than the OP. These people are human and do have feelings you know, even if they ARE 'old.' I am so glad that I live in a community of people who are friendly and caring and don't regard people peeping through their nets as horrible evil nasty old witches. Good grief!
And I find it rather funny that the OP goes on about the 'elderly,' then says she is 60 herself! :rotfl:I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I can understand that some people might be really lonely and enjoy people watching. Frankly, I think it is quite sad that their lives have got to that stage and it is the enjoyment they have left. It must be very boring.
But there are people who are nosy for the sake of being nosy. The woman I mentioned earlier, she was in her forties and spent an inordinate amount of time spying on my friends and I in my own garden. We weren't drinking beer, we weren't being rowdy, we weren't smoking weed - we were just sitting in the garden, enjoying the weather, throwing a ball for the dog to chase after and chatting. Yet she felt it appropriate to pry into what we were doing virtually any time we were out there. This is unnecessary and knowing that we were effectively under surveillance was actually quite uncomfortable.
Some people are relatively private individuals. They don't like the idea of others keeping tabs on everything they do and say, particularly in and around their own home. People should be able to chat with friends on their own property without others going out of their way to eavesdrop on the conversation - of course, if you're chatting outside and someone overhears it, well that's to be expected but it isn't to be expected that someone makes a purposeful effort to overhear it.
I like to be left alone by others. I don't mind exchanging pleasantries with neighbours but I'm not inclined to share everything (or even much) about my life with them and I would be quite irritated if they began questioning me on how I run my home.0 -

Hardly....
People have given their opinions and because they're weren't to the OP's liking she's not happy about it....have you even read her posts?!
She says she's having a really really bad week....aren't we all! In the grand scheme of things, a nosy neighbour should be the least of anyone's worries....it's certainly the least of mine by a long straw. I'd give anything to get rid of personal problems and swap them for a nosy neighbour who's only crimes it seems is to report out of date tax discs (which is correct as it actually is illegal) and to peer through (sorry round!) her nets....it hardly seems worth getting het up about, certainly not to the extent the OP is.0 -
Well I can see perfectly well through my net curtains and have never seen the need to pull them to one side to look out.
I am not taking an excessive interest in the nosy old bat. Practically every time I stop outside she is peering out. I see her curtain move.
Why do I have to be more tolerant? I can't stand nosy busybodies.
She notices cars that don't have up to date tax discs and reports them (and no before you all jump to conclusions I don't mean me and OH) but doesn't notice someone being burgled during the day or someone's car being set alight. Oh can't have an untaxed car on the road but don't worry about people being burgled. What business is it of hers whether a car is taxed or not? To me she is just nasty certainly not community minded.
I am more likely to see real crimes (like drug dealing) as I have 2 dogs and walk them 3 times a day each (separately) so walking around the neighbourhood a lot every day.
One reason why a current tax disc is important is that a certificate of insurance and if applicable a current MoT must be in place to obtain the tax disc. Chances are that someone who doesn't tax their car is driving uninsured.
Strange that I never have the feeling of being "watched" by curtain twitchers but then I don't walk the dog looking at people's windows.
Remember that the householder is looking out to a public space, you are looking at their private property. Maybe you are just fascinating to some if you pass their house six times a day. I can well imagine the remark, "That woman is so nosy, six times a day she walks past and always looks at our windows."0 -

Haha that made me chuckle, not hijacking this thread or anything but when you hear a neighbour threaten their kids you wouldn't think too much of them either!
@Georgiegirl - I think there's a difference between not agreeing with what OP says and flat out insulting them for the difference in opinion - that's on both sides btw.Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016
