Well if she thinks reporting a car for not having tax is important then I think she is very very sad. Nothing better to do than be petty and yet never seen any real crimes.

I am 60 but think I am fairly young for my age. I certainly don't get a kick out of checking what goes on in all my neighbour's lives nor or going round checking whether a car is taxed or not. It may be against the law but you have to be pretty sad to go around actually looking at all the cars.

If she is lonely maybe she wouldn't be if she were not winding everyone up.

IF YOU READ THE THREAD PROPERLY you will see I am friendly with LOTS of my neighbours, including my next door one who is 92 so is definitely old! I have some nice neighbours and some nosy old bags and I am not the only one that calls them that.

Nothing to do with age. I hate busybodies whether they are 20 or 100. They may have feelings but they don't stop for 1 second to consider anyone else's do they?

Oh and I still say you do NOT have to pull a net curtain aside to look out of a window. She is pathetic

    Someone's grumpy this morning :D

Sorry but I don’t subscribe to the “all old people are kind, gentle and lovely”. Some people are nasty through their lives and don’t soften with old age – in fact often they get nastier.
As to community spirit – well is it community spirited to report a couple for not having tax on their car when that car has sat outside their garage for ages and not moved and the reason for that may be something to do with the fact that their daughter committed suicide? She must really be proud of herself. Don’t bother rushing to her defence because, yes, she did know all about the couple and their daughter and yes I know that she knew for certain.
Hey though we have one less untaxed car sitting on the road and the owners may have had to pay a fine (don’t know what the law is on this). From October though there are no longer going to be tax discs so just how she will get her kicks I don't know

  • You sound so angry and bitter catkins....why? I really font understand why you are letting it bother you so much?
  • erm, it's not just the old who are nosey! one of my neighbours husbands works at the same place as my mother in law, and the wife stays at home, anyway, one friday, while visiting my inlaws, she says to me, so i heard about the skip, and i was shocked, yes we had a skip delivered that morning, and filled it up and then had it taken away within hours, and asked her how did she know,. she said her co-worker who was my neighour told her as his wife rang him in his lunch break!

    And they're a young couple!!!

i prefer the old, they have fascinating tales to tell :)

Not sure why all this is in different font sizes weird.

Anyway. I don't know why Catkins, but you do sound really really bitter and angry. Are you angry with the nasty old biddies nosing at you, or is it the people on here who aren't backing you up?

Your post here does sound so full of hate and bitterness. Are you having a bad week?

And are you seriously being horrible about someone whose daughter committed suicide?

Your posts are so ranty and you seem so angry about so much, that I'm losing track of the actual reason you're angry.

I think you should take a bottle of chill pills though.

Some old people are rude buggars yes,, but so are some middle aged people, and young people. Rudeness isn't really an age thing.

Wow, I have known some intolerant people, but some people on here (including the OP) are massively intolerant. Certainly some of the posts on this thread are very rude and scathing. (There several rude ones on the first page.) Many of these people who you call 'nosey' and 'old bags,' are possibly very lonely and looking for someone to chat to.

I have about 5 elderly couples near me, and I love to have a chat with them. When they see me, they always ask about me and how my day was, and how my husband is etc. They look after our cats when we're away, they look after the house, and they give us milk and bread if we run out, and come around for coffee now and again. It's called being a community. Maybe you should try it.

What awful, grumpy, miserable attitudes from a few people on this thread. Frankly, I would much rather have the 'nosey old bag' of a neighbour for a neighbour, than the OP. These people are human and do have feelings you know, even if they ARE 'old.' I am so glad that I live in a community of people who are friendly and caring and don't regard people peeping through their nets as horrible evil nasty old witches. Good grief!

And I find it rather funny that the OP goes on about the 'elderly,' then says she is 60 herself! :rotfl:

I have never talked about him to my neighbours so your comment about sharing my gossip is petty and pathetic. I am sure you would like a drug dealer living near you?

If you have never talked about him to any of your neighbours, how do you know that they haven't noticed him? They may well have done, and might have reported it to police. Or perhaps they have done nothing (which seems to be your course of action too, so why are they expected to do more than that?)

I tend to find that if you want someone to do something to sort out an obvious problem that's affecting lots of people, it's always worth thinking about whether you could be that someone.

Why report a car for no tax - why be so petty and someone who probably forgot because they had more important things on their mind like the fact their daughter had committed suicide?

How am I being horrible about a couple whose daughter committed suicide? My nosy neighbour reported that their car was not taxed. It was sitting outside their garage on a service road. It had not moved for ages and I would guess they had more important things to think about than taxing their car.

I can't believe that she reported them knowing what had happened.

Yes I am having a very very bad week. I am extremely angry and upset because a very good friend of mine is very upset and close to having a nervous breakdown due to a busybody who couldn't keep their nose out of their business
