Why shouldn't she report them? They are breaking the law after all.

Your views are really hypocritical. You complain she looks out her window too much but then complains she doesn't notice a crime. You seem to think that a drug dealer should be reported but someone not paying their car tax shouldn't.

    Honestly make your mind up.

I love seeing the elderly in many Mediterranean countries, sitting on a chair by their doorstep or by an open window, watching the world go by and taking an interest in their community. What a shame that the elderly here should be castigated for doing much the same thing.

Usually a bit chilly here to sit outside - but I agree with you.

The reason people are nosy is because they have nothing else going on in their lives. My Dad has an incredibly nosy neighbour who lives on the other side of the road, she's the gossip queen of the village

I have an old guy that lives opposite me, he's fairly nosy and seems to have to come outside whenever I'm doing something at the front of the house. He lives on his own so I don't mind a chat now and again but it's not just a quick chat, I struggle to get rid of him

Well I can see perfectly well through my net curtains and have never seen the need to pull them to one side to look out.

I am not taking an excessive interest in the nosy old bat. Practically every time I stop outside she is peering out. I see her curtain move.

People put up nets for the very reason of giving them a degree of privacy, so others can't look in properly, so yes, to get a good clear view out of your window, you do usually have to move them. I'm sure your neighbour isn't just moving them for dramatic effect!

Why do I have to be more tolerant? I can't stand nosy busybodies.

Nobody likes a busybody, but why let it bother you so much?

She notices cars that don't have up to date tax discs and reports them (and no before you all jump to conclusions I don't mean me and OH) but doesn't notice someone being burgled during the day or someone's car being set alight. Oh can't have an untaxed car on the road but don't worry about people being burgled. What business is it of hers whether a car is taxed or not? To me she is just nasty certainly not community minded.

I am more likely to see real crimes (like drug dealing) as I have 2 dogs and walk them 3 times a day each (separately) so walking around the neighbourhood a lot every day.

You might not think an out of date tax disc is a "real crime", and in the grand scheme of things it isn't the crime of the century. However, it's still illegal, so by reporting it she is doing nothing wrong. How do you know she's reporting them?

There's a few neighbours in my road who I would call "nosy", one couple in particular know everything that goes on. They are lovely people though and they are both retired so they are at home during the day, seeing the comings and goings in the street.

Last night, someone drove into my husband's parked car at speed. Despite our bedroom windows being wide open, we didn't hear a thing. The "nosy" neighbours did however, and they not only phoned the police on our behalf, they also walked up the road and recovered the front spoiler of the offending vehicle, complete with numberplate!

We got up this morning to find a note on our windscreen, with their details and asking us to give them a knock. A couple of other cars were also damaged, they had left notes on their windscreens too.

Obviously, it's going to end up costing us money, but at least we know what car hit us and what time it happened. Thank goodness for nosy neighbours! :)

Wow, I have known some intolerant people, but some people on here (including the OP) are massively intolerant. Certainly some of the posts on this thread are very rude and scathing. (There several rude ones on the first page.) Many of these people who you call 'nosey' and 'old bags,' are possibly very lonely and looking for someone to chat to.

I have about 5 elderly couples near me, and I love to have a chat with them. When they see me, they always ask about me and how my day was, and how my husband is etc. They look after our cats when we're away, they look after the house, and they give us milk and bread if we run out, and come around for coffee now and again. It's called being a community. Maybe you should try it.

What awful, grumpy, miserable attitudes from a few people on this thread. Frankly, I would much rather have the 'nosey old bag' of a neighbour for a neighbour, than the OP. These people are human and do have feelings you know, even if they ARE 'old.' I am so glad that I live in a community of people who are friendly and caring and don't regard people peeping through their nets as horrible evil nasty old witches. Good grief!

And I find it rather funny that the OP goes on about the 'elderly,' then says she is 60 herself! :rotfl:

I used to love standing at my window. Would do it for hours at a time but then one day the police paid me a visit and said if I didn't put some clothes on they'd take me to the jail..... :(

Well if she thinks reporting a car for not having tax is important then I think she is very very sad. Nothing better to do than be petty and yet never seen any real crimes.

I am 60 but think I am fairly young for my age. I certainly don't get a kick out of checking what goes on in all my neighbour's lives nor or going round checking whether a car is taxed or not. It may be against the law but you have to be pretty sad to go around actually looking at all the cars.

If she is lonely maybe she wouldn't be if she were not winding everyone up.

IF YOU READ THE THREAD PROPERLY you will see I am friendly with LOTS of my neighbours, including my next door one who is 92 so is definitely old! I have some nice neighbours and some nosy old bags and I am not the only one that calls them that.

Nothing to do with age. I hate busybodies whether they are 20 or 100. They may have feelings but they don't stop for 1 second to consider anyone else's do they?

Oh and I still say you do NOT have to pull a net curtain aside to look out of a window. She is pathetic
