Boss shouting at work

Please read what I quoted - you said it was 'Good' that you come across as a person that shouts.

You seem greatly lacking in self awareness. You come across as exactly the kind of person you are criticising.

Your criticism of me is of little interest.

The question remains-is it ok for a manager to SHOUT at an employee especially when staff other members hear it.

In my view the act is intimadatory and humiliating.

    And out of order.

Same as taking a paid walk out.

But nowhere near the same degree.

problem is we only got one side a story to go on, we do not know the history of the person in question with regards to work ethic which from what little we have sounds dodgy. Her boss may well be at the end of their tether - that is if they did shout as we only have their word for that.

Bottom line cause and effect - if it was not for her stupidty in the first place she would not be facing trouble of any sort.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

Not a criticism, but a fact. Are you denying that you earlier said it was 'Good' that you were seen as a shouty person?

You're not thinking on a tangent.

My 'shouty' is just not getting shafted.

Your view of the world appears to be different and that's cool.

Is it just me that wonders why the boss shouted - after reading the op, I was immediately thinking:

A- I doubt it could be heard throughout the building (but possibly outside the room)
B- it was probably more than 10 minutes
C- if she didn't think she did anything wrong - what's the chance the boss started with a reasonable tone to give her a warning and she argued why she hadn't done anything to warrant the telling off ...leading to
D- what are the chances they were actually both shouting by the end of it (the op's friend doesn't sound like the type to just take it)
  • My friend got a letter today asking her to attend a disciplinary hearing for

'being absent from the workplace without permission and lying about getting permission'.

Works out that she went off to the post office and her boss had been looking for her - no-one knew that she gone.

He went to her office once she got back and she said that she'd had permission off one of the guys in the office - which wasn't true!

Anyway I'll keep you updated regarding whether she raises a grievance for him shouting at her and what the outcome of the disciplinary is.

Good lord, what kind of offices do you people work in where you can't pop to the post office?

Unless her absence for 20 minutes causes huge detriment to her role (such as an emergency services call handler), surely that time can just be taken from her overall break allowance?

There is absolutely no excuse for shouting at employees. Presumably the employee is an adult and therefore should be treated as such, not shouted at like a toddler in front of the whole office floor.

If OP really did break some major rules at that workplace maybe she should apologise for presuming she was able to do so, but at the same time she should demand an apology in return for the massive overreaction and unnecessary humiliation.

Why should toddlers be shouted at?

She's be extremely foolish to raise a grievance. She's more than likely facing the sack regardless - what a downright stupid thing to do (and I bet it's not the first time either).
