Mefanamic Acid works really well for me. The pill had an effect when I was taking it, but the great thing I found with the Mefanamic acid was that it works quickly and I only need to take it when I hit that level of pain iykwim. I don't really like taking anything for any pain if I can avoid it, but my periods really cripple me at times (curled up on the floor rocking in pain, when by contrast I was fortunate to have a 9lb baby with relatively little pain (and only entonox). When my doctor first prescribed the Mefanamic acid for me, many (maybe nearly 20) years ago, he described it as an industrial strength painkiller, that they use

Lifesaver for me, so is worth asking your gp about. X0 -
If you want to take something natural try Agnus Catus. It's a herbal remedy which you take once a day throughout the month. You can get it from Boots or heath food shops. It works a treat come period time. I used to get mood swings, vomit and spend two days in bed with cramps, now I don't even notice it's that time of the month. It lightens your flow too.0

Doctors rang to move my appointment to 4.30pm now. At least it's still today.0

Can't help for any menopausal issues but I do know that the Mirena coil or the progesterone-only pill (e.g. Cerazette, Cerelle etc) often stop periods entirely, or make them light and infrequent. I've been on Cerazette for five years now and I can count the number of periods I've had since then on my fingers.0

Mrs G used to have a bad time but she hasn't had a period, or any related problems, for years now. The depo and the implant has been a godsend. She did try the mirena after she came off the depo but the cramps and general malaise returned. No probs with the implant though.0

I thought I'd let you know how I got on at the doctors.
Unfortunately I ended up the seeing a locum instead of the lady GP I had originally hoped to see. He was young and male! After I recovered from my initial shock, I explained the problem. He examined my stomach and has given me a prescription for tranexamic acid. He also wants me to have an ultrasound scan to check I dint have something like fibroids. Once this has been ruled out, then we can look at other options like the mirena coil.
Thank you all again for the advice and support. :T0 -
Result! but, if you feel any treatment isn't working, don't leave it too long before asking for a referral to a specialist. I hope that you are soon free of this awful problem!0
