Monthly curse so debilitating

Options
Hi
It's that time of the month again and I'm lying on the bed with a throbbing headache, feeling nauseous and generally fed up with how my period knocks me for six every month. A few days before I actually start menstruating, I can feel my mood change, then I get e fuzzy head which usually turns into a super headache that lasts a day, then I have a day or two of heavy bleeding. If I'm working, I have to go to the bathroom every hour to ensure I don't leak on my clothes. I have had a few disasters. On the heavy days I have to wear a super tampon and a sanitary towel. Even then I have accidents so often I don't go out if it's a holiday or weekend. It's a nightmare. I'm 47 and thinking can the menopause be worse than this?

  • Would your doctor prescribe you some tranexamic acid? It might help with the heavy bleeding - it did for me. Didn't help with the mood swings but at least you might be able to have a bit more normality during your period.
    Over futile odds

    And now the final frame

That has been a lifesaver for me - well worth discussing with your GP.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Thanks for the advice. I've avoided going to the doctors as a little embarrassed but I need to get over this and make an appointment. Thought I would ask for menopause test too. :o

I've never heard of it but a friend mentioned tablets. I'm going to ring GP on Monday. :T

Do go to your doctors, mine are not quite as bad as yours as it only lasts a day or two for me but I sympathise

I always feel hungry do you?

A nice hot bath helps, along with pain killers, I change regularly and do use both it helps, for peace of mind if nothing else, don't feel embarrassed about doing both no one would care if they new

Have you tired a hot water bottle? nothing really eases my pain but the hot water bottle is the best 'cure' I have found so far

Be assured you are not alone :(

Sorry to ask this but do you not think this could be menopause? My ex MIL, current MIL and my mum all had flooding and rotten feelings during their menopause. Sending massive hugs - I'm on now and just got out of hospital after feeling dreadful!

Similar for me and the dr has suggested the mineira coil so I am going to give that a try. It is something you either think is wonderful or you don't get on with it. Apparently, they hardly ever do hysterectomies any more because of it.

Another nod to this - taking away the worry of heavy bleeding is such a relief.

Also get a blood test. If you are bleeding that much, you may well be anaemic. I am not bleeding quite that much but am anaemic. I have also been prescribed the t. acid, which does help.
