Boys using ladies loos

I have had a quick google but I haven't been able to find out what the law is regarding gender segregation and public toilets.
Age about 8 seems to be the general consensus. I'd think by late junior school age they would be able to go to the toilets unaccompanied. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I wouldn't dream of letting my 6yr old grandson use mens' toilets on his own. in fact, thinking on it, while a lot would depend on where the toilets are etc and the 'volume' of traffic - I think I would prefer an under 10 yr old to be where I can SEE he is safe. I am a grandma btw - but, if his grandfather was taking him I would be quite happy for him to use mens toilets.0

If there were those female urinals at festivals - I'd use them!
I know I honestly didn;t know how to react. Perhaps if he'd been using a smart phone under the door I could see her point, or if he had been looking under doors etc.. But to go into a cubicle and be doing nothing seemed a bit of an extreme reaction!
I would love to see 'mixed' toilets, I mean with cubicles what difference does it make?0 -

Normally he would go into the mens if we had a male family member to take him, otherwise he comes in with me or we use the family toilets (if there are any) or disabled ones as a very last resort!
Today however I felt the right choice was to take him in with me, we had no one to take him, so he came in with me. All well and good he did his business and washed his hands, all the while this woman kept leaving then popping her head back in, tutting and leaving again, I sent him outside with my Mum sensing perhaps this woman was irritated at his presence. She then proceeded to shout that kid of your beter be SPECIAL NEEDS or otherwise I'm reporting him to the staff for being a pervert!!! At this point I am VERY glad I sent him out. My son is very sensitive and socially very young for his age, this would have devestated him.
So I'm wondering, having never really given it a second thought, either taking him in the ladies, or seeing other young boys in there, if this really is a problem, or was this woman just a bit ummm odd!!?
Does your young son get kicks from seeing who washes their hands or not?;)
I doubt it.
I would chalk it down to experience. If he was behaving well, and not peering under doors or anything then you just got someone intolerant on a bad day.
Glad your son didn't hear it though

Have absolutely no problem with boys, men using the same toilets as me. They are all individual closets anyway, nobody sees anything.0

Ha ha that made me laugh! Yes he has a basin fetish!! I think it must have been an irrate person having a bad day. Just got me thinking when is the time to let him go into the mens on his own, and have I missed it and unbeknown to me been doing something that's not socially acceptable!?

Our swimming pool has mixed sex changing rooms, showers and toilets, no urinals. I have used mens' loos when the ladies queue has been too long and I have used a disabled toilet when it is free. Taking my son in with me would be a judgement I would make as and when I needed to.
I think the woman was the one with the problem, anyone with an issue would receive short shrift from me and I would never question a mother who escorted her son to the toilet. I would just believe she had her reasons. The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -
I go to a lot of family venues - and see lots of boys in the ladies which has never bothered me. I would think at some stage they will refuse to come into the ladies - until then who cares. As long as they are safe0

I've been in one. It was in a trendy modern London restaurant/hotel and my husband had to pre-warn me that I might see men washing their hands at the sink.
It really wasn't a big deal once you get your head round it that it's not the norm.0
