How would you share a mega-lottery win

  • Buy my own British Touring Car Team (BTCC)
3 cars, with me driving one of them plus two decent drivers in the other two who are prepared to coach me.

My problem is that I'd probably need two mega wins, as I'd blow the first one in months :D

I would probably pay off mortgages of family etc

I would give NO ONE a lump sum.

Instead those I wanted to I would set up Trust Funds whereby people would be given an income not a capital sum

Nothing spoils people more than money, especially people who are not used to great wealth,a s any newspaper will say (broke lottery winners etc)!
  • I know this is going to sound stupid but I have thought about it, I live in a village of 3142 people and I would love to be able to give everybody in the village €1000 each then sort out the family so they are all totally debt free plus some, then my wife and I would go away for a while until the dust settles then sort ourselves out. Wonderful what you can dream of isn't it
  • Large sum to my parents as they have always been there for more financially so would repay the favour. Sums to my brothers and their family's as well as my wife's brothers and sisters family's.

Small farm house with outbuildings, countryside or seaside views, must be able to see water whether it be sea, river or lake. Indoor pool and gym, garaging in the outbuildings with mezzanine floor with games/tv room, I'm thinking olde signs and fuel pumps, I have an image similar to jay leno's garage in my mind but on a much smaller scale, maybe about a dozen cars. 2 everyday cars for me and wife, 4x4, something sporty, maybe a TVR, and a few classics (triumph stag, classic mini, split screen VW camper are musts) plus whatever takes my fancy. I may trade classic and sportscars so I can constantly play with different cars on a regular basis.

Trust funds for my kids, money to charities on a regular basis, maybe a holiday home somewhere (maybe Florida)
  • I don't think there's anyone that I would give a large lump sum to (other than a couple of charities that I would really like to be able to contribute more to). The people closest to me are either in good shape financially and wouldn't need the money or I wouldn't trust with the cash.

For my parents I would buy some land in the area they would like to live and build them a home that will suit their needs for the future (my dad has health problems and mobility is likely to be a real issue for him as time goes by). I would also set up an annuity so they have an income to cover standard bills.

I would set up a trust for my niece to cover the cost of whatever post-secondary education she wants to go into (tuition and living costs). I would also pay for her to travel (possibly fund a gap year) and look into buying a property for her to rent at a low rate and which I would will to her so eventually it would be hers. It might seem a bit controlling to set things up this way rather than to give a lump sum/gift a property, but both of her parents are manipulators and scroungers and I think they would take advantage of her if she had the cash.

I'd want to do something for my nephew as well but wouldn't give him cash because he's already spoiled and work shy and would just blow it. I'd be tempted to buy/set up a business and offer him employment on a decent salary.

Other than that, there are a few friends who I would do things for - treat to nice holidays, pay off the mortgage/car etc.

For me, I would buy a plot and build a house (not huge, but a bit bigger than we currently have and built to be environmentally friendly). I'd buy a car (nothing flash but a bit more modern than my 10 year old tin can). I'd also probably leave my current job and set up a business doing something I enjoy. And travel!

I wouldn't want to stop working entirely or to suddenly move into a massive house/drive flashy cars etc. I'd still want to live a regular life, just without worries about the cost of holidays/new clothes/home improvements etc.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • I would give most of it away to charities. I would just want to keep enough for me to not have to worry about money for the rest of my life. Maybe do some travelling
  • Easy peasy, travel the world then get a chihuahua and explore the UK

I would probably buy an apartment in New York and spend a couple of months sitting in it looking out of the window whilst I decided on what to spend the rest on.

If I come home, I would then buy a symmetrical house with 5 windows across the top floor and I would pay off my friends and close family mortgages

I would also treat the people who had realised that I had been missing for a couple of months :D

    It's so hard, isn't it?

I'd want to keep a big win quiet as well but once you start spending or giving away loads of money, it's impossible.

I wouldn't tell people that had no reason to No Except my family I should of said that bit

If we won the lottery, we would want to re-do our wedding as ours was one of the worst days ever. The only good things were a) we became man and wife and b) I got a free icecream from Mcd's.

Another thing I would love to do is get lots of envelopes and put £100 in it and randomly give them to people in the street. Just doing something else to make someone smile x
