When I do parcel the parcel with the children at school I put a daft forfeit in each layer such as 'hop on one leg in a small circle'. They usually have a laugh, it lasts longer and burns off some energy.

Aaaahhhhhhhh memories and roflmao all at the same time.

I had some wine coloured velour pedal pushers that matched my Nans flock wallpaper perfectly! I just kinda blended in!! And I was a bridesmaid at the age of 7 so my bridesmaid dress was my 'party frock' for a couple of years after that.

I'm convinced it was paste sandwiches that made me become a vegetarian :pale:
And traffic light jelly - yum yum pigs bum.

And tizer & Vimto & cherryade that makes your lips red. Ooooooo, and limeade if you were lucky. Sometimes we got cream soda too. When we were old enough we were allowed a bottle of shandy to share between 20 :rotfl: :rotfl:

We had a traditional party for my daughter last year when she was 10!! Most of her friends had never been to one and loved all the traditional party games we played.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Eh, I was only born in 1986 and this is what most of the parties I went to were like :D

I don't think any one mentioned "find the marshmellow in the pile of flour"........ehehe.

a foil wrapped grapefruit is a bit posh. I just remembered the foil wrapped potato this evening, which will be the perfect setting for the olives, which will be on the obligatory cocktail sticks.
My son has a cute outfit of pinstripe trousers and waistcoat, with a smart shirt to match. Now, should I get him to wear that...;)
I'm already trying to plan what to wear Margo Leadbetter stylee so I can be the perfect hostess:)
Farah fawcett hairdo here we come...LOL

    Ok, confession coming up ...
    5. Presents must be wrenched open on receipt.
... I only ever had one party and that was when I was 9yo. Because my b/day is a few weeks before Christmas, the guests were an imaginative lot and I ended up with 6 selection packs.

Hey, I'm 9!! Based on Rule 5 ... *gobble, gobble, gobble* :o I think that's what put me off chocolate for a *very* loooooong time! Cor, didn't 'arf feel great at the time tho ;)

OMG this brings back memories - I had a pair of ghastly navy blue corduroy knickerbockers and white blouse for one party outfit, and an even more ghastly tartan dress with white bib thing on the front with tartan bow tie effect (retch).

I remember the cheese and pineapple hedgehogs with fondness, as I do also the sausages on sticks, chocloate fingers (seemed so posh to us poor church mice), cheesy wotsits, jelly and ice cream etc. Hurtling round to Agadoo, Superman, or Ooops upside your head *sigh*.

I remember the best party we ever had was a halloween one at youth club, where ghost stories were told in the dark (to very good effect I might add), and then a story was told and things were passed round in the dark - an 'eyeball' (pickled onion), a 'hand' (inflated marigold glove), a 'tongue' (I think an actual cow tongue from t'butchers etc. Modern (non old-style)parents would have a health and safety swoon, but it scared the crap out of us.

Combined with jacket spuds, hot dogs, bobbing for apples etc - brilliant!

I hope you and the kids have a fantastic time Sarah, and don't give a thought to what all the other parents think (they are most likely going to be racked with guilt that they never put this much time and affort in with their kids)
"It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

Overlord for the Axis of Evil (part time) :D

Kids just love parties and the more we use our imanginations the more they love them! My son has asked for a pirate party and we have got a pirate bouncy castle coming. 12 3 - 4 year olds in the morning and then open house for friends and family in the afternoon (fancy dress optional tho' we will all dress up!!). Going to get my moneys worth out of the bouncy castle and catch up with lots of friends at the same time.
One problem just heard that our kitchen is being ripped out next week and out of action for 3 - 4 weeks (to try and dry out the floor from a leek somewhere???) so what am I going to feed everyone???
Might even start a new thread for advice on how to cope without all my 'essentials'!!
