We always had home parties as a kid and I did them for my three too until they got older and it wasn't the "done thing" for them :D

I give my children home birthday parties.........if that is what they want!

My five year old chose a home party last month and he and his friends had a great time! My fifteen year old has opted for a home party (albeit a barbeque) for her birthday next month. My eleven year old decided he wanted to go the cinema followed by a visit to a fast food outlet. His choice and he enjoyed it, I certainly don't feel 'guilty' about it

I'm not having a home party for my little one this year, I refuse point blank!!

They're all being split up when they finish playgroup and she wants to invite her whole class, there is no way I am having 30 kids in my house, nothing would survive :(

But the local village hall is free to use :D
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

That's a great idea if having lots of kids! I used to limit it to around 12 for home parties but having all boys it used to get a bit boisterous as they got older

My youngest decided he wanted his whole football team to his last party so I hired the local sports hall for £6 an hour and got their coach and manager to organise a football game while I dished up the food and drinks :D

    9. Party bags should be banned as they encourage financial flaunting. A bit of mangled sponge cake in kitchen towel if good enough for anyone. IMO

Hear hear! Had the lone four year old at mini-bun's first birthday bash park herself in front of me when she was leaving demanding 'party bag' in a very very loud voice. Her poor mum nearly died.

Though I suppose if you have to have them Wilkinsons's do bags of games (where you move the pieces round in a plastic frame' and cheapo jewellery etc for about a pound for 6 - 10 pieces.

    Party bags are a tragedy!!!

Last year I made my 5 years "fish" for a pressie with a play fishing rod. The fishing order was abit of a problem we started with the winners of musical statues (the judge can always fudge a bit) , but had some in tears...
Everyone had a go and they all had a mini notepad, fancy pen and a couple of sweets. After THIS one asked as she left... " and where are the party bags".
    Rotten bratts!

That sounds brilliant SuzieG. I too had a home party for my 10 year old last week. He wanted a Star Wars theme. (It consisted of him getting Star Wars figures for his birthday and initiating a game where each of his friends had a figure and played the part of it. After an hour of this I interupted to ask if they wanted to play games, and was politely told to 'go away please as at important part of game') For food I did Pizza and chips, followed by Raspberry Ripple icecream which they had fun decorating with a selection of chocolate fingers, wafers, sprinkles etc. Then after the cake, hubby and big brother shooed them out in the garden for a kick about to let off steam.
They all went home well satisfied with glow in the dark light-sticks in their party bags as 'light-sabers'. It is real fun to do a home party. I would thoroughly recommend it.

We always had Rabbit Blamange (sic) on Jelly Grass - Jane Asher - Eat your heart out!!!

    And you forgot -:

No. 11 Cheese and Pineapple on Cocktails sticks, stuck in a Grapefruit wrapped in Foil.

Don't forget , as Basil Brush always said, ' What no jelly? You can't have a party without jelly!'

(I used to hate jelly, blamange and trifle, so I was the little girl with the
BIG bowl of icecream, yum, yum)

Why on earth would other parents feel guilty

Sounds like most parties round here for 4 year olds or come to that very similar to what my daughter had at 14 except for the addition of freebie face packs..

cos they don't do these sort of things for their kids of course!!!
I had party cups, half pint clear plastic cups from the pound shop, covered in tissue paper, also from the pound shop. Looked a lot more fancy buy cost a lot less.
